True but the way gas is getting it has to be considered

I agree, I've never reset mine and it says 16.8 avg. Every mile is a hard one, if driven normally I'd say it would get 20+.

My CS gets 24.5 pretty consistantly. I have seen as high as 27. There are several posts on here that pretty much show between 16-22 is the norm. And the common thought is...it is a Mustang...right????

On al all freeway trip I got 435 miles at 75 mph cruise control the whole way with a witness in the car.

But it's a 5.0 so you'll probably stomp on it and average 18-20 like everyone else does lol,my worst ever average was 18 with a lot of fast city driving and I have the 3.73s

So you're saying people bought a 5.0 for the gas mileage.

I did. The mpg is quite impressive for the hp. My mustang gets better mpg than my 4cyl ranger. Some people enjoy driving their car, either spirited or not. I don't want just a small cruise to cost me $50 because my mustang gets 8mpg. This is another area where the flexibility if the mustang is king. That fact that I can lay into and destroy 95% of the vehicles I ever come across on the road and on the other hand I can set the cruise and get 27mpg on a 2hr trek to the beach. I'm not gonna lie, if this car averaged like 9city and 14highway mpg, I wouldn't have bought it. So yes, some people buy their mustang for the mpg, just not in the way you and others think they would.

to try to make it easier clarification, lets say you compare thsi to a person walking. there are 3 walking styles

1-zombie

Simply put, you are just wasting gas to get from point A to B. Even at near half throttle, there is no need to let it rev up to 5k RPM. Tip: shift quicker and more often. Your torque will take you there at your "brisk" speed you describe. If you can't do that, or you are too lazy, get an auto and let the computer decide what gear to be in. Revving past ~3.5k at anything less than 1/2 throttle is just wasting gas.

getting 23 to 24 mpg and I drive the hell out of it... sometimes. It's actually a nice comfortable car to sit in and cruise. Compared to the Mini cooper S I had before. Getting the same mileage as the Mini did. awesome. completely bone stock stang for now with 3.31 rear end. considering some bolt ons with a tune and a 3.73 or 4.10 but not sure what that will drop the mileage down to.

I have a 14 track pack car with 373's and have been averaging 18.8. I do however shift 1st to 2nd to 4th to 6th a lot.

This car is all about road speed and throttle position. Lessen either and mileage goes up. I've busted 30 on a winding 80 km/h speed-limited highway with my nervous girlfriend aboard, with 3.73s no less.

I have the most horrible possible driving situation daily. Short trips, all city, etc. 15 ish is fairly normal for me in these circumstances. I don't really worry to much but 91 Premium here is getting to about 6 bucks a gallon, currently.

If your already wondering about MPG, don't buy a 5.0. You want good gas mileage buy a Focus. You won't like the mileage with your heavy foot and will be back in here whining about your gas mileage with your 5.0.

I'm in the wealthy little burg of Vancouver, on the west coast of Canada. Sadly, I ain't one of its wealthier inhabitants. I was born here but can barely afford to live here.

I usually accelerate faster than other cars around me and and still shift at 2500 rpms, I just push the gas down a little harder during acceleration.

From all I have read, the the 5.0's get quite thirsty when you start revving them. As long as you shift at 2-3k rpms and aren't hammering it all the time you can get respectable MPGs
same with me. 20 mpg city, 26 hiway. When I relax. VERY decent for a pony car (got 2 transams 94 & 2002 before my mustang).

This is an absurd comment. If you want a great car, that looks good, drives great, is priced well, and has as many options as you can dream of, BUT mileage is a consideration, get a v6.

If you've given up on life- get a focus, or other mediocre FF automatic car.

No, you don't get it. I demand the performance, and enjoy the sound as well. Paid dearly to get there, tried a few exhaust systems. I am not after savings on gas. But I care a lot about efficiency, and as I try to improve my car, I also monitor gaz mileage for that reason. It is an excellent indicator, while power & torque get healthy. I enjoy the ride 12 months a year, and am very happy about latest mod.

What don't I get?

I wasn't quoting you, nor do I recall your last comment...I get how to get decent gaZ mileage from a 6, I get that they get decent mileage to begin with. What I don't get is why someone should NOT have a Mustang when fuel economy is still valued. The OP does have a 6, but why should someone get a Focus or any other FF over it? He's not trying to get BETTER fuel economy- unless that post is what I didn't get.

I now get better MPG than my 2013 V6 on 3.55s in my 2013 V8 on 3.31s. The MT82 V8 has gobs of torque that make 3.31 gears just fine for Street performance on street tires. The Auto V6 needed the 3.55s to make up for the lack of low end torque.

I am not saying one is better than the other, I just feel bad every time I see someone buying a focus/camry/whatever, when for less money they can have such a sweeter ride. Power is like a gun- there is fun to be had, but it can be dangerous/costly/have consequences- never have a gun, not have to worry, or be responsible and have a wicked time? One doesn't always have to pull the trigger in a Mustang, but it's WAY more fun every time!

That's just how I see it. I'd rather be conservative in a Mustang, and love every moment, than be pitiful trapped in something else.

Edit: not trying to push one or the other, I just keep seeing a trend here: either go hard or get a Prius. Not the person I quoted, but all the time people act like that- why not encourage efficient use for the times its best. If one can only have one car, why choose to be trapped in something so dull? Maximize the use of that tool, and it can do more than one thing. Stop start, or active grille shutters, whatever efficiency boosters come our way should be embraced and encouraged, otherwise it WILL get too costly to drive what we love.
