50 Years of Mustang with Lee Iacocca - Jay Leno's Garage

This is a good video. The first half is some history of the Mustang and the second half is a up close and personal with one of the 2015 Prototypes.

They have to. Most of these pre-production/prototype cars are not assembled with completely tooled and/or safety approved components. Due to timing and late design revisions, many sub-assemblies and components are hand made or use non-production intent materials. If they didn't crush them, there is no guarantee that over time the vehicles wouldn't end up on the road--basically, a rolling liability. The only way Ford could preserve is to induct the car into the Henry Ford Museum but can you imagine keeping 'all' these cars? You'd never have enough space. Sucks but it's the truth...

We should all invest a mustang evolution museum and see if ford would donate all prototype/ pre-production starting from mustang one to current 2015 mustang, even tho the fox body sn95 new edge ect are already crush maybe just get one production car from each generation, that would be an awesome museum

What I heard from a salesman. The 2014.5 will be a 2014 body style and from what he said it will have an appearance package inside and out. I can't wait myself... If it is based on the 2014 style, I'm going to wish I would have waited to buy it in stead of the 2014 I have.

It sucks that we got screwed out of it. My 99 was a 35th anniversary , yet it was built in 98. Why did they insist on having the 50th anniversary models built so close to the anniversary if they never cared before :/.

I would say the 2014 1/2 will be out spring of 2014 as a true 50th. If I'm not mistaken Mr. Patel of Ford said the 2015 will be available in the fall.

Also read the forum Q&A with Patel of Ford...

He answers a question asking when will the 2015 mustang be available for purchase? He answered fall of 2014. My dealer told me the 2013-14 body style will be a 2014 1/2 in spring. It makes 100% sense seeing how Patel said the 2015 will be available in the fall.

The 50th would not be a true 50th without a 2014 1/2.

Yes, 2015 will be available in the fall as a MY2015. Not likely there will be a MY2014.5 (based on MY2015) available in the spring or summer...not enough time for launch.

No launch needed. It's going to be like the current car just labeled 2014 1/2.
