MotorTrend: Louvers and Chrome for 2015 Ford Mustang 50th Anniversary Edition

Louvers and Chrome for 2015 Ford Mustang 50th Anniversary Edition

Quote:
Among the many highlights of the Ford Mustang’s 50th birthday is a new limited-run special edition model. Ford unveiled a special edition 2015 Ford Mustang at the New York International Auto Show to celebrate the pony car’s 50th birthday, and the automaker didn’t have to think too hard about how many it would build. When the 2015 Ford Mustang 50th Anniversary Edition hits showrooms this fall, it will only be limited to a production run of 1964 units, signifying the year the Mustang first entered the world.

So what do those lucky 1964 customers get? The 2015 Mustang 50th Anniversary Edition starts life as a top-spec Ford Mustang GT coupe with the performance pack. Notable design cues include Kona Blue or Wimbledon White paint, the same shade used for the very first Mustang sold in April 1964. The colors are exclusive to the Anniversary Edition, as are the louvered rear-quarter windows that were specially constructed from layered sheets of glass. Subtle chrome touches are used to frame the taillights, grille, and side glass, while the unique 19-inch “Y-spoke” rims were inspired by the steel wheels bolted on the original Mustang. Out back, a faux gas cap badge marked with “GT” and “50 Years” is centered on the fascia.

Inside, the dashboard’s aluminum trim panels receive an axel spin finish and a serialized “50 Year Limited Edition” number will be located on the passenger side. More 50 Year badges are sewed into the seat backs. The Mustang 50th Anniversary Edition will have an exclusive two-tone cashmere and black interior color scheme, with cashmere stitching used for the steering wheel, door panels, and other interior pieces.

Ford isn’t ready to reveal horsepower figures, but says the 2015 Mustang 50th Anniversary Edition will be offered with either the six-speed manual or automatic transmission. Ford notes that these will be the only automatic-equipped Mustangs paired with the performance pack, which includes Brembo brakes, Pirelli P-Zero tires, and limited-slip differential with a 3.55 final-drive ratio (cars with the manual get a Torsen diff with a 3.73 final drive).

Production and sales of the 2015 Ford Mustang 50 Year Limited Edition begins this fall, officially kicking off the production for the next-gen pony car. Pricing has yet to be released, but price likely won’t be an object for those wanting to own a tangible piece of Mustang history.

The looks of the new car are really starting to grow on me. I think I will definitely take a serious look at a '15.

If that car had a glass roof, I would seriously consider trading my car in for one.

I like the rims too. Sweet car but why no fog lights in the grille?

I like the small chrome detail around the taillights, but not around the side glass.

Yeah that makes it look like a 2 door accord, especially on darker colors when it stands out more.
