Boss vs Mods vs wait for 2015...

Hello Mustang comrades,

What would you do in this situation?.... Trade my current car for a 2012 Mustang Boss 302 with 38k miles, mod my current car or wait until the 2015 mustang and camaro are for sale to see what they have to offer. Some more info: I currently drive a 2013 Cadillac ATS turbo and let me tell you, it is an amazing car, beautiful interior, and it also handles really good. The only thing is, I feel like the Caddy needs more POWA!. I was thinking on modding this car to about 400whp by tuning, swapping out the down pipe, and exhaust, but that would mean throwing my warranty out the window (It has 10k miles). According to some modded cars over at the Cadillac forum, these mods should put me close to what a Boss 302 runs (4.0 0-60 12 sec 1/4 mile on street tires). Also, Is 38k miles too much for a Boss? and What would be a fair price for a Boss with the recaro seats and 38k miles?

Thank you for your feedback...

You're playing with fire if you want to mod the ATS. Not only is it questionable that it will hold up to tuning, but it won't keep up with a BOSS with 444 horsepower and a drivetrain setup to harness it.

If you want a luxury car, keep the caddy. If you want a muscle car, buy the BOSS.

Keep your current car and wait until 2017 so if any problems Ford has a chance to fix them!

Look for a Boss with less miles. Always look for less miles as a rule of thumb especially with a 1.5-2 year old car.

I would wait for the new GT. Has forged internals as the Boss, probably had more power, and I would have to say its probably going to be a more track able car than the Boss.

I'm personally keeping my 2013 GT and waiting to see about the new SVT model.

I am going to try to locate another Boss with less miles but there isn't really too many out there. Has it been announced what kind of upgrades the 2015 is going to have over the 2014 or the Boss?. I like that there aren't too many Bosses around too.

New mustang has a independent rear suspension and is going to be a head ache when it first comes out.

You come to mustang forum and ask if you should get a boss or keep your current non mustang car. Ofcourse you should already know the answers you are going to get.

Nobody here can or should tell you what car you should get.

For example me personally , I HATE the back look of the 2015 mustang. I just got the 2014 mustang 2 months ago even though i knew a redesigned mustang was going to come out.

I will tell you this.. buying a used muscle car especially boss with 444 hp is like playing with fire. You never know how hard the previous owner pushed/abused their car. My 305 hp mustang is almost always begging me to step on it , i cant even imagine what 444hp boss beast is saying to you when you are driving it.

Just keep your car and wait for a 2016 Mustang. Well that's what I would do. Unless you really must have a Boss. That has too many miles already in my opinion.

The boss will always have the panache and resale value but they used the boss as the benchmark for the the 2015 and they surpassed every performance point the boss had. The ats is in no way a bad car. I'd wait it out if I were you. The 2015-2016 may surprise everyone.

I am on the Cadillac forums as well. So, I just wanted to get some feedback on what you guys thought was a better pick, between the new gen mustang and the Boss 302 before I sank money into my ATS (You guys are Mustang connoisseurs after all). This Boss I am looking at seems to be in really good shape for the mileage it has, but 38k miles seems like a lot of miles for a 2012, hopefully they're hwy miles? LOL. well, you never know. Keeping my Cadillac and waiting for the next gen ponies wouldn't be a bad idea either, it's not like i'm driving a VW beetle or something LOL (Sorry if I offend anyone here).

You're not in a sinking boat so I'd just wait it out. lol. But judging by your user name it looks like you really want a boss. Either way, all the cars you're considering/modding are great cars.

The ATS is a WONDERFUL car, well balanced and easy to throw around and control. But, I feel like it needs a little more power (It is faster then a V6 Camaro).

If the Boss was to keep it's value better than a 2015 and 2014 mustang, than I would much rather have a Boss, not only because of that one reason, but because it is more rare.

Time will tell but my money is on the boss being worth more 10-20 years from now. It's got the name, limited production, and by far the best mustang built to date. It'll definitely carry a premium in the future.

You are right. I think I am going to let this one go and wait until we see some real world numbers for the 2015 model. Hopefully I can find me a lower mileage 2013 if the 2015 doesn't deliver the goods.

Well, it looks like I am going to wait for the next generation muscle cars to show what they've got.

Thanks everyone!.

If you change your mind and are willing to travel check out woodhouse ford's website. Had a 2012 Boss with less than 5k or 6k miles. I test drove it a week ago 😉

Go for a lower mileage boss, you will still have warranty just in case. And the CNC heads and values that the 2015 will not have

I would take the boss for sure over a 2015 mustang. The new generation has not "grown" on me yet. It doesn't look like a muscle car to me.

My next Mustang will be a 2011 to 2013 Boss. I'm looking now for one in my area. When it comes up, my 2011 will be sold or traded in for it.

So my choice is the Boss.

The 2015 is rumored to have actually gained 200 pounds. If that's true, get the Boss, or the new SVT model.

All speculative right now I suppose. I also heard it uses more aluminum so its still light despite the irs.

But yeah the SVT should rock the doors off a boatload of performance cars out there even the new Camaro Z28. If only ford would pony up and put a real brake system into their cars now.

+1 about the brakes. I hate the stock brakes on the GT, but I hate the stock suspension more. Eventually I'll get 6 piston Brembo's and the FRPP Adjustable suspension.

Wait until the new Mustang is released. I suspect the 2015 GT will outperform the Boss in every way.

Unless of course Ford releases a turd instead of a pony.

Also, the Boss is nothing special. The Camaro 1LE is faster on a racetrack everywhere except in straight line speed, which it more than makes up for in braking and turning.

If the OP just wants a car that goes fast in a straight line, why not buy a C5 Z06, do basic mods and have a 10 second car that gets 26+ mpg highway, if 10's are slow, throw a 200 shot on it and be in the 9's? That makes more sense to me than buying a Boss.

The 2015 is such a departure that I wouldn't be cross shopping it with the current crop of Mustangs. That said, power wise its not going to be terribly different from what you can get now. If you don't need the new body style and don't care about the IRS (and possibly improved handling), then I'd get a current generation Mustang. Also don't forget that first model year cars are always plagued with issues. I personally would wait until 2016, to give them a year to iron out the little kinks.

The 2015 is slowly growing on me, its supposed to be better than the boss in every way. I do like the interior and the looks aren't really that horrible to me. But the boss has the rare factor, not everybody has one. It will hold value and its a boss, who wouldn't want one? I think I would wait then test drive both and then you'll know what you want

Looks aren't terrible at all with the new 2015. When I have a new girlfriend I'm always *****ing and complaining how the old one is better in certain aspects than the new but once I have the new one around for a while she undoubtedly becomes better in every shape and form 80% of the time unless of course she turns into a psychotic chick or starts downing ten greasy burgers in each sitting and packs on 200lbs which then spurs the desire to trade in which makes the newer model better in every way shape and form.

It's human nature the loath change until the new become familiar...
