Shifting thunk

2015 GT, 5.0 PP MT6.....

Traded a 2012 GT 5.0 Brembos, MT 6, 3.55 rear for the above. Have read a number of threads talking about a mutted, muffelled thunk on shifting from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 regardless of the speed driven or quickness of the shift. Car has less than a 1000 miles on it.

Anybody out there who has similiar experience and even with more mileage. Any responses.

Shifting thunk

I have had the same problem. 2015 GT, Premium, non-PP. My car now has 4K on it and I have not had any issues for at least the last 2 months. Initially I think my problem was shifting way to low. I tend to shift at 3-3.2K rpm and it's smooth.

My old 2012 had a 3.55 rear end and I never heard this problem. The 2015 has the 3.73 rear.

Also noticed when sitting at a stop sign, clutch out that when i push the clutch in i get a slight resistence yet slowing down to a stop sign and below 10 mph, it goes into 1st with no problem.

Finally, when going from 3rd to 4th and on up no thunk is present.

Anybody.. Any ideas suggestion or corrections

I have the same "problem" but based on what I was told by the service manager at my dealer (who I know personally so I trust his word) and the research I did online, it's not an issue. A lot of people are experiencing the same thud but so far there have been no issues directly related to it. I have 3600 miles on my 15 GT PP and no issues. It's a bit of an annoyance but you'll get used to it eventually.

Did the service manager indicate what the source of the noise is. Even if one takes the word of the service manager, the noise continueing for extended periods may produce problems during warrenty period or after.

If one knows the source of the noise something can be done.

Thanks for the follow up.

PS . . . Dont get me wrong and your relation with the service mgr is important but when one pays $45,000+ for a mustang . . . I would rather not have to get use to it.

No worries man. Believe me, I'm not going to argue with ya. I wondered the same thing. The fact that he told me it's "normal" but couldn't say what caused it leads me to believe he doesn't know what the hell it is but it hasn't seemed to be of grave concern. I'll be taking it in soon for some other minor issues and I'll follow up with him. I also work for a bulk Motorcraft oil distributor and our rep drives a 15 GT PP for his company car (must be nice...). I'll see if he knows anything.

I may have to modify my first response based on my assumption the noise was coming from the back end.

After driving the car 10 miles today, outside temps at 65 and everything warmed up I noticed:
1- with the car at idle and clutch out, it idled at one rpm, pushing the clutch in raised the idle speed approx 200 rpm.
2->>>pushing the clutch in and shifting to first(no delay) i noted a similar thunk. Clutch in, wait 2 seconds then to first.... No thunk
3- pushing the clutch in and going into 2nd first and then into 1st, eliminated the problem.
4- starting out in 1st and doing a one count before going into 2nd mostly eliminated the thunk.

While not exactly scientific, it tells me maybe the MT82 is still too tight and needs to work itself loose. i haven't seen any posts with trans having 5 to 10k miles on it and these thunks still around.

Earlier this year i had changed my 2012 MT oil to the dual clutch fluid and added the tube of friction modifier and it made a major difference.

So, FWIW.

I can hear the brakes engage with the hill assist on slight inclines. I'll have to turn it off and see if I still hear the same noise.
