Miss my old 36 gallon gas tank compared to new GT.....

My trade in was a 2014 F150 with the Max Tow option, which included a 36 gallon gas tank. It was nice to have a nearly 700 mile range on the highway at times.
It was painful financially to fill it, but the gas gauge on our new 2015 GT moves like it's alive and directly connected to my right foot....16 gallons is not enough for highway runs, but of course I'll live with it.

Very true, I know......I just have this thing about making it all the way to Seattle on one tank of gas.....mainly because it is so expensive partway there in Ellensburg.....my truck could do over and back on that one tank.....16 gallons just seems a bit small for the GT......but oh, the sound of that exhaust, and the top down to listen to it, will make up for it....of that, I am sure.

Lol. In my car or our truck I can watch the gas gauge move if I floor it.

Well OK, I get your point.......I wasn't really asking for a 36 gallon tank on the Mustang. But, 20 would have been nice, and that is only an additional 32 pounds or so.....

^ it's a fine balance for car manufacturers though. They have to think about that and every extra pound when they put these things together. That can effect the average MPG they have to report as well as the cost it takes to fill that car. While people like you or I realize it's all the same most of the world would see that extra cost and be discouraged to buy because "it costs 60 bucks to fill this thing up" when in reality you spend only what you use in gas. The cost to fill it up is irrelevant.

For what it's worth I'm with ya on wishing the tank was even a little bigger. I've never pumped more than 14.5 gallons or so into the car. And at an average of 24-25mpg that's about 350 miles. Which is exactly what I drive typically before I re-fuel. It would be cool if I could do 400 or 425. Per tank.

Yeah, an 18-20 gallon tank would be good.

is the 2015 tank a saddle design?....my light comes on after using 12.5 gallons. The saddle design tends to want to leave 1-2 gallons per side making it useable for 13-14 gallons. Yep not one of the better things.

+1 on smiles per gallon =

The new electronic fuel pumps that are internal to the tank, REALLY don't do well if you run the tank dry. They can overheat and fail if you do it often enough.
Ford leaves a good safety margin with the empty lights coming on while the pumps are still emersed in nice cooling gasoline, and long before the tank is actually empty.

I wish my **** would burn up. Then it would be a good excuse for the 1,400 fuel system kit from JPC.

Luckily I live in a small town so gas mileage doesn't hit me as hard. Plus I have my 99 chevy malibu (a.k.a the panty dropper) to take to work and back.
