Just my opinion and you can take it for what's it worth. I thinks it's a crime to put a tail hitch on any mustang. I'm sure there's another way to tow a bike around on your car.

One of my neighbors, when I was growing up, used to tow a 20 ft jet boat with a first generation Mustang.
It was actually pretty common back then. Not as many people owned pickup trucks as now.
And it would seem to me, that the modern Mustangs should be much more capable tow vehicles than their predecessors. Hell, they're probably better than a lot of the trucks from that era! Lol

Here are some hitches.

Here are Ford's thoughts on a hitch - https://www.ford.com/resources/ford/...tang_Sep30.pdf

I have a Draw-tite on my 2014.

Here is one for the 2015 Mustang - Trailer Hitch for 2015 Ford Mustang - Draw-Tite 24928

If you are just going to be putting a bike rack back there, you shouldn't need a wiring harness for a trailer.

Mine is only 1000 lbs also.
That's not very good!

I thought it would be more. For god sakes, it has, practically, the same drive train as an F150.
It must be the flimsy uni-body construction.

Oh well, that leaves out, safely, towing a jet boat!
Perhaps a jet ski...

I saw a boss towing a little trailer with slicks in it. It was an odd sight lol

Shoot my dad use to tow a small-medium size boat with his early 80's 4 banger mustang. I think it was just under 20ft boat

I see that a lot at the autocross. Miatas mainly.
One guy had a rack for his slicks that fit into his trailer hitch, much like the cargo racks that you see on truck/SUV's. It was a neat setup, eliminating the need for a trailer.

My family is known for completely ignoring towing capacities and gross vehicle weights.

We used to tow a 17 ft boat with a Datsun 510 wagon!

I'm getting this eventually. Need weather to cool down a bit before I pick up riding again for the fall.

Watch the 30sec video. They actually show a Mustang.
