AC on but not really?

So I was out really early the other morning and the weather was rather cool so I turned on the defrost setting for the windshield and left the temp knob on the coldest setting. The air coming out got REALLY cold. I even tested it later in the afternoon when it was 85 at a stoplight and still REALLY cold. The AC was off and only the lights for power and defrost were lit. I'm curious if anyone else has noticed this and can confirm if the AC was on or off? If need be ill get a photo to show the settings on the climate control panel.

Yes it's fast, no you can't drive it.

a/c is always on when control is set to defrost to remove humidity and keep fog off windows.

Allydriver is correct.......the A/C assists in dehumidifying the interior air, and thus, taking the moisture off the inside of the windows and out of the interior.........you can turn the defrost temp up, but the A/C will still be on and helping with the humidity.
