Throttle body spacers = Additional HP? Why?

How in the world does putting in a throttle body spacer make these kinds of changes?
From the AM catalogue description:
1. Increase sound --- the whistle means it's working.
2, Improve throttle response and low end torque.
3. Improve mpg.

For something this simple, wouldn't have Ford spaced the throttle body appropriately for all of these gains? For $129.90 (new AM catalogue) is just looks like a piece of metal that spaces your intake about 3/4 of an inch further out.
I don't get this mod at all........

Since we have fuel injected engines and the air and fuel isn't mixed in the carburetor, the spacer doesn't do anything.

Think of it, if it did help, why would a 1/2" do anything? Why not get a Pringles can and really extend it?

Been Die-in for these, spacers, to come up on topic. Must be the twirly that makes the power. You can tell by whistle.

They sure seem more than silly to me as well. Especially when they want to charge you $130 plus shipping for a piece of machined aluminum (?) and four bolts. You could put this on a CNC machine and make your own for a couple of bucks, if you had the correct dimensions.
Four 1/2 longer bolts for 20 cents each and you'd be in business.
And, is it the little grooves on the inside of the housing that they claim will make it whistle?

by adding a spacer you create more volume or space so more air & fuel can go in .....supposively

Don't get me wrong I'm a straight forward about most if not all and while I experienced a whistle I didn't feel anything from the "Butt-Dyno". I think that you could spend elsewhere on the car. Just my .02!

Didnt say it was true, if you believe what a manufacture says about their product then u r a sucker , Do you really think some one is going to say that their product is BS & dont work, most claims in performance increase are exaggerated . I have a 1/2 " spacer but only use it for my nitrous nozzle not because it would magically give me more HP

There are posts about being disapointed after buying a SCT flash Tuner ,like they are some magic box that turns your car into some killer machine with out any other mods , they r misled , the HP gain is Barely noticable . thats just 1 example , but that dont make the SCT tuner APOS , same with the spacer & a s--- load of other parts. most r not even needed in alot of situations , Dude just thinks it looks cool so he buys it & wastes $$$$$

That's why I always try to underestimate the gains from stuff. Then I'm never disappointed haha though I would never expect anything from a TB spacer

exactly me either ,Them companys like AM & LMR R OK but they r in in to sell as many parts as they can they dont care if it really works as long as it dont de crease performance, I think alot of the time people think they feel something but I think its a palcebo effect. cams , heads , boost give HP gains that r worth something . suspension upgrades are worth it as long as quality parts r used ,dont junk buy it cause AM has a sale

That whistle is created as your $$ leaves your wallet & makes two laps around your backside and disappears. As Alex said, it may/may-not engage your butt-dyno on the way out.

Save your $$ for a Flux-Capacitor that makes real HP.

It's a noise maker you put in the tail pipe that produces a whistle type sound that they claim is suppose to sound like a turbo. If you google "turbo exhaust whistle" you will find some amusing videos.

Well, after googling it, I ended up at a video with a guy and his '98 base model Mustang just joking around with the thing. The comments raised my blood pressure a ton, needless to say

Why would some one waste $$$ on that? Doesnt the whistle of a turbo come from under the hood not the tail pipe ? If you want the sound of a turbo go buy a turbo. POSERS

"the whistle means it's working"

Let's play "if I whistle while I'm driving"

simple rules Name the tune and guess the HP (gain or loss)

The William Tell Overture = 18HP yeah it's a lot but for a whistled song it rocks.

I've heard they add hp as well. Something about how the whistle directs air.

It causes sound waves to build up behind your car and the sound gets compressed and causes a sonic boom that sends your car going forward at the speed of bullsheit

Oh nice! I didn't know the science behind it. Is speed of bullsheit a German thing?
