Question on automatic's W/ reving

This may be a dumb question but here goes. I had a standard mustang back in the day and when I would see another fellow stang i would be able to easily Rev to say hello.. The automatic is obviously different.. So my question. " if I am cruising at 30 mph and I put the car in N ( neutral ) and lightly press the gas ( to say hi ) and then wait for the RPMs to come down and then put it back in D (drive) will I cause any damage to my car?" I am not reving the engine and slamming it back into Drive.. I am not using it for launching purposes.. Everyone says this will destroy my motor but I see everyone do it.. I'm not doing it all crazy.. Just a 3-4krpm hello and back to to 1krpm and I put it back to D

the auto trans in this car is used in stock form in 600hp plus drag cars I can't see you damaging it by doing what you describe. Rev away.

See that's what I figured.. I mean if I was reving and slamming it back into Drive then I could understand lol.. My friend one time revved it to like 6-7krpms and then put it into Drive around 5krpms and the engine bogged and didn't let him accel once the the revs came down the engine responded and he took off.. So I'm sure something is in place to protect your engine

If you put it in sport mode it essentially does just what you wanted.

If I put it in sport mode and hit the gas I'll take off all fast, if I do it while in Neutral the car stays stationary. Not that I don't love sports mode.. The 2016 sport mode to me seems way more aggressive then on my 2014 lol the pedal is like feather light ready to pounce

The engine shouldn't let you start using the throttle again until it's below 2k
