CAI Restrictor tune issue

So I got my Steed tune on Friday and got it installed with no problem. However, when I took the car for a drive it was not smooth at all. The car is lurching at low speeds and the shifts are very hard.

I also got a check engine light, was easy enough to clear but I was surprised to see it. The last thing is my OEM remote start will not work with the tune, weird.

I returned the car to stock and everything is fine but has anyone else had these type of issues with the Steed tune?

Which tune are you using? Are you sure you gave Steeda all the appropriate info about your car so they would send the correct tune?

It took them three times to get my tune right. The first time they sent a tune for the wrong diameter cai (which caused the car to run terrible), the second time they forgot to turn the o2 sensors off because I have cat deletes (which caused the CEL to come on).

I'm using the tune they sent me. I was very careful in filling out their tune form. I don't have a lot of mods that would affect a tune. My mods are a resonator delete (added H-Pipe), A Steeda CAI (non tune model) and a Roush axel back exhaust and 3.55 gears.

I emailed them this morning am I'm sure they will get back to me quickly as their service seems to be excellent.

The problem is more than likely the CAI. There's a restrictor in it that needs to be removed.

The resonator delete has no bearing on the tune.

Grabber Blue,

That looks like what it is. Steeda just responded to me and mentioned the same thing. I had the CAI installed at a local shop so how do I remove the restrictor?

At the 2:07 mark, you will see the restrictor:

Per the instructions, this is how the restrictor is installed ... just back it out:

Quote:
Install the CAI restrictor into place. Push it in, from the
velocity stack end, until it stops. Note: It may help to add
light lubrication to the o-rings, before installing into the mass
air flow sensor housing. Be sure to line the hole for the
sensor up with the hole in the mass air flow sensor pipe
Would you mind changing the title of the thread to something other than "Steeda Tune Issue" since it is the CAI restrictor?

Best Regards,

TJ

TJ,

Thanks for the info! More than happy to edit the title. I do have another question, Matt mentioned that the autos throw a code when they are tuned. My question is once I clear the code will the check engine light come back on every time I start the car?

Thanks for help! You folks provide great service!

Ok, how do I edit the title... no edit button on my original post??

I'm pretty sure only mods can edit the title.

Once the code is cleared it will not come back on - according to Matt.

So I removed the CAI restrictor and reloaded the tune... all is well! Car runs great, accelerator hesitation is gone, feels like it has improved TQ on the low end, very happy with it. I'll need to drive it some more to really get a feel for the improvement. I'll report back in a couple of weeks.

Thanks Steeda for working with me on this!
