Dropped them to 16lbs for the first 7 runs (took me a while to figure out the traction control problem to get a couple good runs), then about 5 runs each at 18, then 20, then 22, then put them up to 30. Never made a difference. I was never losing traction except maybe for fractions of a second during launch or while I was already into the launch. The car had no problem hooking up. I put the fronts up to 40lbs to make them roll as easy as possible.

I think the traction control can handle tires that slip and gradually gain traction after slipping. But, when a tire has traction, slips ever so slightly and then grabs traction again like it would do with the D/R's and a rather slimy track that night, it causes the car to puke all over itself. It's bizarre. It took me a few runs to figure out what it was doing. I thought something broke or that I had an electrical or fuel delivery problem at first. Then I turned off the traction control right before launching and that problem disappeared. I did not experience this problem at all with the stock tires.

The 3.31 gears cause one major problem. When launching, the gearing is so high that the initial rpms are so low that it puts then engine in such a low hp part of the power curve that you have no launch torque with the combination of 430hp, the Getrag MT transmission, and the 27.6" tall M/T tires. Shorter tires would obviously dramatically change this equation and may reduce the problem. It is simply the wrong final gear ratio for drag racing with this car in it's stock configuration with the tires I have. On the Super Snake this gear ratio may be better since it has an obscene amount of hp so even real low rpms are delivering plenty of hp/torque to launch a 3700lb car. But, stock hp....3.31 ratio is way too high and the engine/transmission combination doesn't have the torque needed.

I'm going to put in the 3.73's. Then I'm going to run it. Then I'm going to put on the supercharger and run it. I'm going to beat on it to try to get a 10.5 with that configuration (that will give me the results I want to determine what a "stock" super snake is capable of). Then I'm pulling the 3.73's back out and putting the 3.31's back in. Then I'm going to run it. Lastly, (if I don't like the results with the 3.31's/supercharged results) I'm going to get a set of 3.55's and go with it.

I'll have lots of lightly used parts to sell

BTW...If anyone is looking for stock GT premium (no track pack) ground effects or a hood (obviously painted black), I have them for sale.

OK cool ty I'll do the same whenever I go drag mine too

Edit: also, do you have track mode on the clone, or is that a performance package option only?

Personally, I don't think that's a good idea.

Often, when you change gears, they're never quite as good as the stock installation. I've heard even after installations from great performance shops, that people complain there's a little bit of whine or noise, where stock there was no noise.

Just slap that supercharger on asap & then if you actually need the 3.55's do it. But I wouldn't be changing gears back & forth.

The clone does not have the track pack, it's just 50 GT premium model.

I am a glutton for punishment, otherwise I wouldn't of started this project.

Changing gears is like changing cams...it just depends on who does the changing.
Although the only experience with 8.8's was with my 97 Cobra I changed gears a number of times without any issues.
My 14 TrkPk always had a slight whine...right from the factory and beating on it for over 8k miles never had an issue.

Really what you aught to do is just buy a spare center section and put the other set of gears in it (or buy one that already has the 3.73 in it) then all you do is swap the center out depending on your mood. Prob take an hour or 2 anytime you got the itch to change it.

Yes. I put the exact steps in a prior post. Turning it off works much better. 3.31 gears still suck with the stock horsepower though.

Finally got the "clone" below 13 seconds. My car is 510. On the fastest run I was caught looking at the tach for a split second. My average R/T is now pretty consistently around 5/100's to 6/100's of a second (actually had 6 runs tonight with a reaction time of less than 5/1000's of a second...redlighted only once and that was only -0.001)

It is still 100% stock except for the M/T drag radials. Since I've gotten below 13 seconds, I am now going to start swapping out some items. Should have more time slips in a few weeks after making some mods.

Looks positive...at least you are heading in the right direction!
What pieces are you going to add for the next outing?
It's funny that you redlighted by -0.001as that was one of my last runs in the Ole Maverick...doesn't get much closer to a perfect light.
Would love to see some real time video of your launch!

Adding the short throw shifter, going from 3.31 gears to 3.73, and then putting in the aluminum driveshaft and Ford Racing half shafts to make sure the additional torque from the lower gears doesn't break anything. I'll run it for a little while with that. Hoping to get down to 12.75 seconds. Then I'll probably go have the car tuned by Performance Dyno in Loudon NH https://www.facebook.com/Performance-Dyno-326860964020/ and see how low that gets me. Then the summer will be about over. This winter the car gets fully converted to a Super Snake and emerges in the spring for some 825hp drag racing fun!

Instead of a Super Snake clone, maybe you should make a CobraJet clone...

The SCJ they are building certainly has the straight line performance and as a drag only car...I'd love to build or buy one although the SS would be a much more rounded car and although not able to turn an 8 second quarter mile the SS would lap the SCJ on a road course before it even made one lap...both very neat cars and would fantastic to have one sit next to the other in the garage....IMHO

Hey Michael... Awesome thread. Keep the updates coming.

One quick question... What do you think of the Shelby / Wilwood brakes? Do they make noise you aren't able to overcome with say, new pads? They look like a great deal, but just about every Shelby GT video I see you can hear them squealing in the background and have seen similar comments on Wilwood reviews.

The Wilwoods make noise. As Vince LaViolette at Shelby says....good racing brakes make noise.

Vince is certainly a credible source. Thanks also for answering question about the Shelby exhaust tips. I would have bought their rear diffuser and exhaust a long time ago if I knew Shelby would sell the tips with it. Assumed they were keeping that exclusive to their builds when I was trying to decide between that and the GT350 rear diffuser.

Yah, there are a lot of things they won't sell, but the tips they do.

I would love to be able to get the snake with wings for the fenders and grill but they won't sell them. So I'm looking at knockoffs and they just aren't the same. I had to find a rear spoiler that was similar but aftermarket. The biggest issue is that they won't sell the 2015-later Super Snake rims or hood which are the signature items for the newer SS design. Not sure what I'm going to do about those two important items. Anderson Composites makes a look alike hood so I may go that route. Custom Car Wheels (CCW) makes the SS wheel but when I talked to them they (obviously) won't go around Shelby and sell the rims to me.

I love those wheels on a SS...I was suggesting to have them make you a set that look really, really, really close to that design. Can't be too much more expensive than the Shelby...?

Like your build idea, nice to see someone step up and build what he wants not just buy it, along for the ride, interesting build to say the least.

Yes. Medwards is just working from a full-scale, 3 dimensional, "set of plans" that he acquired.

Great job!
Very laid back, informative and to the point...maybe you should send a video or two of yourself on the Clone SS to Velocity TV...who knows

Here's another update....I should have the final "front end" installation video this weekend. I got most of the way through (see pic at the end), but then life got in the way and had to call the build quits this past weekend to go help out my wife on something. I guess she deserves to come first every now and then right?

Within the videos and at the bottom of this post I have pictures of websites where you can buy non-shelby branded parts. These parts are nearly identical and I believe are functionally the same. Sticker shock could be a challenge as the front end alone is about $4,000 in brakes, shocks and springs. As you can expect, the Super Snake has high end parts, so it's not a budget project. However, you will have one wicked handling and incredibly powerful car if you decide to copy me.

As promised I also have videos from the professionals (which are certainly more entertaining than me) that show installation detail.

My Video
https://youtu.be/AQJKp6HiNvI

Steeda Spring Swap Video (But same process if you are swapping out to Ford Racing struts/springs)
https://youtu.be/b-EcQd93i4g

Wilwood Brake Installation
Follow the Wilwood link below and you will find an online pdf document showing the installation instructions. It's pretty straightforward. Keep in mind that the calipers are different for each side so you need to read the directions carefully. Aligning the calipers to the rotors is also something to slow down and pay attention on. But, none of it is overly complicated.

Parts
Wilwood Disc Brakes - Specialty OEM, Racing, and Street Performance Bolt-On Brake Kits and enter "140-13887-DR" in the part number search box
Ford Mustang Parts | Mustang Parts & Accessories | CJ Pony Parts and enter "Ford Performance Track Handling Pack Assembled Fastback EcoBoost/GT 2015-2017" in the search box....choose the track handling pack

Where I Ended this Past Weekend. Caliper is just mocked up. It has to be removed to install the rotor. Just didn't want to leave that gorgeous caliper sitting on the garage floor.

I really enjoy the video updates! Very nice job!

Good luck with the alignment... I can't even remember the last time that I felt like the alignment technician, performing the alignment, truly understood how the different adjustments affect the handling of the vehicle.
Maybe, call around to some different shops, and try to gauge if they understand what you want done to the IRS alignment. Or perhaps a performance shop in your area may have a recommendation.
It might save you the time, money, and frustration of watching some dude looking at the computer screen of the alignment rack, seeing that all of the parameters are in the "green", and telling you that everything is good to go.
