Dropped them to 16lbs for the first 7 runs (took me a while to figure out the traction control problem to get a couple good runs), then about 5 runs each at 18, then 20, then 22, then put them up to 30. Never made a difference. I was never losing traction except maybe for fractions of a second during launch or while I was already into the launch. The car had no problem hooking up. I put the fronts up to 40lbs to make them roll as easy as possible.
I think the traction control can handle tires that slip and gradually
gain traction after slipping. But, when a tire has traction, slips ever so slightly and then grabs traction again like it would do with the D/R's and a rather slimy track that night, it causes the car to puke all over itself. It's bizarre. It took me a few runs to figure out what it was doing. I thought something broke or that I had an electrical or fuel delivery problem at first. Then I turned off the traction control right before launching and that problem disappeared. I did not experience this problem at all with the stock tires.
The 3.31 gears cause one major problem. When launching, the gearing is so high that the initial rpms are so low that it puts then engine in such a low hp part of the power curve that you have no launch torque with the combination of 430hp, the Getrag MT transmission, and the 27.6" tall M/T tires. Shorter tires would obviously dramatically change this equation and may reduce the problem. It is simply the wrong final gear ratio for drag racing with this car in it's stock configuration with the tires I have. On the Super Snake
this gear ratio may be better since it has an obscene amount of hp so even real low rpms are delivering plenty of hp/torque to launch a 3700lb car. But, stock hp....3.31 ratio is way too high and the engine/transmission combination doesn't have the torque needed.
I'm going to put in the 3.73's. Then I'm going to run it. Then I'm going to put on the supercharger and run it. I'm going to beat on it to try to get a 10.5 with that configuration (that will give me the results I want to determine what a "stock" super snake is capable of). Then I'm pulling the 3.73's back out and putting the 3.31's back in. Then I'm going to run it. Lastly, (if I don't like the results with the 3.31's/supercharged results) I'm going to get a set of 3.55's and go with it.
I'll have lots of lightly used parts to sell
BTW...If anyone is looking for stock GT premium (no track pack) ground effects or a hood (obviously painted black), I have them for sale.
