Speaker Upgrades

I'm looking at upgrading the sound system in my GT premium 400a (shaker 500) mustang. I was wondering what you guys have put in and any recommendations.

The previous owner of my last mustang put some alpine stuff in that was nice but I don't even know where to start when it comes to sound equipment in cars.

I also have no rear seats and almost no reason to use my trunk so I'm not worried about anything taking up extra room if it's not going in the stock holes.

Kicker QS speakers are good with an Orion sub or alpine SWX

That's what I plan to put in Mine, I've the speaker layout at home when I'm off work I'll post it up.

I've done a couple systems.

Depending on the quality and quantity of sound will give you your price. Obviously if you want big high quality sound, you'll be spending more money.

Kicker has a set of speakers they recommended for the s550s but that doesn't cover all of them.

There's component and coaxial (2-way up to 4-way) speakers. You want components for your 6 1/2 door and tweeter, coaxial for 3 1/2 door and 6 1/2 rear deck, and i believe the dash is a single 6 1/2.

Whatever speakers you decide to do, your wattage(power) will come off your head unit(radio). There is an amp in your driver's side kick plate you can swap out or hook LOC/Equalizers.

Do some research into what you want and pricing. Alpine, polk, jl, kicker, are great starts. And remember PEAK WATT IS NOT YOUR REAL WATT!

Whatever you decide to do, try to match all of your wattages and resistances.

If you want my advice, get 2 alpine type r 12d2 subs, vented box, monoblock/2 channel amp pushing 1200w rms at 1ohm stable.

You'll enjoy it.😉

Thanks for the help guys. I've been working on researching and learning. Mechanically I can handle cars and bikes but electrical is my next to learn and master. I now realize why car toys is a pretty good business plan haha. I think I'm going to go with alpine just because I've had their stuff before and really enjoyed it and never had any issues with it. Still working on which exact set up though.

Let us know when you do it. I'd like to direct replace speakers but im afraid the stock amps would not properly drive them and the quality difference would be hardly noticeable. I just haven't seen too many people replace the shakers. There are tons of write ups on the base system , but it doesn't have amps or subwoofers in the doors

Wiring diagrams. I'm not sure if all models come with the kick plate amp.

I wanted base but since i got a 16 they upgraded me to sync 3 which is apparently the shaker system without the sub.

As for Alpines, great choice. I used to punish my alpine subs and never blew. The doors however i ran too hard.

I had my doors around 120w a piece if not more, and it was supposed to be 100/110. Subs i had wired in series on a monoblock 2400, which i kept between 1200-1400.

Not a comp build by any means but it was a loud '12 focus.

Speaker Upgrades

I've seen a lot of talk installing Line-Output Converters in the stock system. If you have the premium with the touch screen and want to keep it but add amps or equalizers and stuff you can add LOCs to help bring life back to your system.

http://www.amazon.com/SCOSCHE-LOC2SL...wgwb1QTR58N_tt this was a super cheap one someone added at the amp in the kick plate.

If you're wanting all channels i'd do AudioControl's LC6 or 7.

Lc7: http://www.audiocontrol.com/car-audi...-upgrade/lc7i/

Don't know much about Audio Control. Has anyone used the JL Fix 82 or the Punch audio processors yet?

Thanks
