Funny Jalopnik article r/e the new hood extractor blinkers.
Funny review of the hood blinkers, and how the passenger side is completely invisible to the driver.....unless you have a convertible, and stand up to look over the top of the windshield!
Still seems odd that Ford would go to the trouble of developing this feature, and have only 50% of the whole thing even visible to the driver..........maybe it's better at night if you can see the soft "glow" from the far side of the hood?
Actually he has the purpose of those things wrong. They are really so that people next to you can see that the turn signal is on.
Actually he is correct. These are a throwback from the earlier years. The original purpose of these back in 1967 was to remind the driver that the turn signal was on. The ones in modern cars that are mounted on the outside of the side mirrors (that YOU cant see), are for other drivers to see.
When he is talking about the ones "in" the mirrors, he may be referring to the ones that are in the mirror's glass itself and face the driver. Other drivers to the side of you, can see those as well, but so can the driver of the car.
If you have ever been overseas you will find many cars with this type of indicator. Places like Japan and Europe. It's more of a heads up to others. I think ford saw it as an opportunity to ad a "retro" component while also appealing again to the overseas buyers. Just my opinion.
