+1

It looked like s**t, handled like a sack of potatoes and was expensive as hell--that's why it didn't sell. That car was a product of the Jacque Nasser years--wasteful and not profitable. Any new premium model (Ford GT/Daytona???) would need to have the performance, luxury, handling and build quality to be able to compete with a premium market. There's rumors of a Lincoln coupe swirling that could use the under pinnings of the '15 Mustang...also of a proper rear drive 4door Lincoln model to compete with the CTS...time will tell...maybe at the NAIAS we'll get a preview

Ford needs a lower priced model. Something along the lines of a FRS. Lightweight and small. Put the ecoboost and it should easily do mid 4s 0-60 and high 12s quarter. It'd be like a baby muscle car...

Would it cannibalize Mustang sales? Sure but I think purists would never choose the Ford FRS over a V8. It would probably cannibalize the V6/Ecoboost Mustang sales but the image of a V8 pony car would remain intact.

And having a 305hp Ford FRS would also steal sales from Scion or Hyundai. So any cannibilizing would be offset by stealing customers that wouldn't be in the market for a Mustang anyhow.

Ford 'is' coming out with an affordable lower priced coupe similar to the FRS--the '15 Mustang Ecoboost 4cylinder.

There is no way Ford will build another rear drive model priced lower than the Mustang--they would be cannablizing their own product line. There will be other models derived from the '15 platform but not lower tier product. Lincoln will get at least one maybe two. If anything, there is a good chance for a new halo car to compete with the Vette/Viper/GTR...
