Turbosmart NEW 12psi wastegate!

Hello everyone! As the title says, Turbo smart gives us another performance option! I placed placed my order, and should have performance numbers by the end if next week!

The 10psi wastegate was good for an increase in HP by 30hp and Torque numbers by an increase of 40LbsFt by 3500rpm! So the 12psi should increase these numbers!

Best I've done using Track Apps is a 14.3ET! So if I can get to 13's with this wastegate, I'll be happy!

Just so we are clear! That's 30rwhp and 40rwtq by 3500rpm for the 10psi wastegate! So we will see increase of these numbers!

At Sacramento Raceway I ran a 14.6ET at 95mph!

Using Track Apps I bested this with a 14.3ET at 96!

So that's the new target, 13.xxet!

UPS did something stupid! They transferred my package to USPS or the Post office! So I'm still waiting for the wastegate!

It will show up eventually. It's the busy season for the shipping companies...

I kinda thought that the Ecoboost would run a little quicker than 14.6.
Was it a warm night when you ran it at Sacramento?

Race weight for can Ecoboost is 3800lbs! 6spd with 3.31 gears!

So 14.6et at 97F is not bad really when you think about it!

I beat a 1993 SVT Cobra Foxbody, which is an achievement, cause Foxbodies weigh 3000lbs and the Cobra is 235HP and 300ftlbs of TQ!

Go to Google and look it up!

Well as I suspected! USPS lost the package! So I notified the shipper to send me another 12psi wastegate!

Can you guys believe this? USPS sucks! UPS is stupid for shipping through USPS without the consent of the Shipper! I called Ebay, and they said they didn't know UPS was doing this! Legally they can't give USPS the package without the approval of the shipper! That makes sense to me!

I'm so pissed off guys!

if you ship UPS Ground, UPS will drop it off at local USPS. they have been doing this forever. the trick also about this is that UPS marks it as delivered when they drop it

Yup. Do you understand what a wastegate does, or how it works?

Yes Sir! It governs the speed of the turbine!

Correct, but the boost controller governs the wastegate. Without commanding more boost via the controller, changing a wastegate essentially changes nothing.

What changing a wastegate can, or does, do is a few things:

1. Dictates the lowest boost possible to run. With a 12 psi spring, if you unhooked everything the turbo would basically only run at 12 psi give or take.

2. Dictates control. A wastegate can really only handle about 1.5 - 2 times spring pressure, so if you're running 20 psi on a 7 pound spring you're going to have poor boost control. By going to a 12 pound spring, you essentially have good boost control - as far as the wastegate is concerned - to like 25-30 psi give or take.

3. Dictates spool ... kinda. This again will come down to the boost controller and the tune, but a stiffer spring will, or can, help spool up time. Really this is more important on a big turbo, on a stock turbo it will make little to no difference.

With modern ECUs and load based tuning, even if you could manipulate the boost at the turbo, the ECU will close the throttle, cut fuel, pull spark, etc if you are making too much power and exceeding the load limits and / or boost targets. This mod really doesnt do anything as far as making power is concerned. It isnt like the 90s where you could slap on a strong wastegate and a manual boost controller and just run it for all it was worth.
