Pony lights?

I bet there is already a whole discussion somewhere but I have yet to find it.

I want to add Pony lights, but I want them too look like the actual lights you get from Ford, but maybe not cost as much as Ford would charge.

Also, can I wire them differently so it's not only when the doors are open, maybe to a switch? Any suggestions are so welcome

Thanks!

This would involve precise cutting into the bottom of your side mirrors to allow the OEM pony lights to shine through. I believe they go for 40-50 each on ebay. Then you would need to tap in to some wiring in your door to get them to come on.

About the same as the Starkey puddle lamps install, except you get no template but at the same time, you have to be precise you will will have an ugly gap or something.

I have seen this done. The mirrors actually have the outline of where you would cut. The parts can be had on eBay or from ford obviously. Then you would just need to tap into the wire already in your door. I believe it's a purple wire. I had the raxiom ones and they were cool but I didn't like how they hung down.

In the OEM set up the pony lights are switched on and off with the dome light / dash dimmer control next to the head light switch.

You can get the oem puddle lamps from Ford White Bear Lake for less than $20 a piece. Don't get the eBay crap.

So I finally got them, they are not perfect and they are as far out on the mirror as you can go but the image still is disrupted by the bump in the door :-/ I'm ok with it because they look so cool! let me know what you all think!Click image for larger version

Yea I wouldnt imagine those would look the best under the mirror. Those are meant for under the door if I remember right.

Is there a way to adjust the tilt of the lamp inside the mirror housing? You might be able to aim it so it doesn't hit the door.

I was thinking of trying to angle them with some kind of shim, we will see. No, they are advertised and sold as mirror insert lights, not running lights.
