Glove compartment key

Probably a dumb question but how can you lock the glove compartment?
Was the dealer supposed to give me the two remote keys and a regular key for the glove compartment?

To my knowledge, the glove compartment does not lock (at least through the '13 MY). The center console compartment does; you use your ignition key. It doesn't insert the full depth, but will still turn to lock/unlock the console.

Shouldn't it have a key in the fob in case the fob stopped working or the battery was dead?

I think so. It's probably tucked into the fob somewhere that's easy to miss.

Yep, there should be a "stub" of sorts that slides into the fob that you pull out (key)to manually insert and unlock or use for the glove box/center console door.

On a side note, does anyone actually put gloves in a glove box anymore? I guess it sounds better then calling it a "junk box".

My wife's BMW had a feature where it would start as she approached the car...I always though this was not a good idea, as a crook could push her aside (car jack) and drive off. Then BMW informed us that if they (crook) did not have the fob, the car would run for about 100 yards (enough for her to run, and run fast!) away from the scene, and the doors would lock. The crook could not unlock them without the fob.

On the back of your key fob, you'll see a release tab. Pull this and lift to remove the cover on the fob. Inside you'll find a physical key.

Awesome, thanks. I knew there had to be a regular key just in case of a power failure.

Just called Ford Customer service and they informed me that the key you refer too is not issued standard with the new purchase. They said it depends on the dealer and of course Viva Ford El Paso don't give you that key with the purchase, only the 2 key fobs

Wow, that was the Cust Service answer? How else would you get into the car if the battery's dead? Do they really expect the owner to call Ford Roadside Assistance? What if the battery died and there was a small child or pet in there on a hot day? Nobody's going to wait an hour for a tow truck to show up.

Did you check both key fobs to see if either had a key in it? I guarantee it's a standard option no matter the dealer. Like others said, how else would you get in the vehicle if the battery is dead?

Yeap I checked both key fobs and nothing. I agree with you, it should be standard but I guess it's a way for the dealer to make a little extra money. I can't believe this!!!!

That's the first thing I did before calling. I also checked the bag where the owners manual is just in case and nothing there also.

The rep from Ford Customer Service said that it was up to the dealer to cut one of those for you when you purchase the vehicle. This doesn't make any sense to me, it should be standard.

I would go talk with sales and say you forgot to give me this.....be nice and mention you haven't filled out your dealer review yet (if they don't help you when first asking)
