Tech Tip: Spoiler removal / install
I just installed a GT500 spoiler on the rear of my 2014 base GT. Installation in general is pretty simple using the supplied instructions or YouTube videos but....
When removing the stock spoiler, it's held down with 4 easy nuts and some type of nuclear strength glue tape. With effort and patience, the spoiler slowly comes loose if starting at one end and using a plastic wedge and some firm but not rough pushing.
There will be a large amount of this sticky tape still on the trunk and actually comes off pretty clean and easy with the dry method of pushing and rolling it along with firm pressure using your hands or thumbs.
Goo gone is an option but for me, it made a greasy slimy mess of the trunk and wasn't getting the stuff off better than dry method.
Here's the tip....
You will get huge painful blister on your thumbs quickly and not even realize it until it's too late. Especially if you're also adding a little heat with a hair dryer.
Don't do this like I did. Leather gloves!! Rubber gloves won't work, they rip apart in seconds.
