Cobra problems

Hey guys I got a 1997 cobra and I have been having some trouble with it. When I'm driving down the road and I go from let's say 4th or 5th to neutral the rpms drop all the way down to 0. In better terms it dies. But if I tap the gas real fast right after I put it in neutral it will be fine and not die. Any ideas on what this could be? Thanks
