Have you tried the Reset Button on Driver side under dash?

95 is OBD1. Use a paper clip to retrieve the codes. Wherever you are taking it is trying to use an OBD2 scanner probably. That won't work.

Generally speaking, the check engine light being on rarely causes the engine to shut off. What other things have you checked? Alternator? Battery? Grounds? Battery wiring a and connections? Ignition module, etc. also could point to a PCM issue. Could ne a lot of things. Kinda hard to diagnose over the Internet.

Also the getting hard to start problem could also be fuel related. Fuel pump going bad, etc.

everything has been checked and is good. Have not checked ignition module or pcm yet. I have had a couple people say it might be the computer. Just afraid to start replacing stuff and it not be it. Don't have the money to be doing all that.

I had a car years back that had a similar issue. Ended up replacing PCM and computer and finally ended up being a crimped vacuum line.
