It started a couple of weeks ago. It's most noticeable on cold starts. Appreciate any insight as to what this could be and what's needed to fix it. https://youtu.be/H51hFA6g51w
I believe that the 3V engines have a reputation for noisy cam phasers.
Does the noise seem to be coming from the front of the engine near the valve covers?
I'm at 99k miles. Cam phasers are a good suggestion. I read that the knocking associated with a bad cam phasers is most noticeable at operating temperature, however the knocking I'm hearing is always present, from cold start to operating temp. The ticking is also definitely coming from the drivers side of the motor, although I can't quite tell if it's the front of the motor where the phaser lives, I'll have to give another listen this morning.

OK, gave another listen under the hood after my drive in to work. The ticking isn't towards the front and contrary to my previous statement, is not more prevelant to drivers side vs passenger side of the motor. The ticking is just as audible on both sides of the motor. Closer to the middle, near or above the spark plug ports.

You could use a "backyard mechanic" stethoscope fashioned from a long screwdriver, a length of broomstick, a piece of metal pipe, etc, something that will transfer sounds when you touch it to the engine in various places, while holding the other end to your ear.
Or you could just purchase an inexpensive mechanics stethoscope from Harbor Freight.
Aside from taking it to someone with a "trained ear", or tearing the engine apart, that is probably going to be your best bet for trying to identify where the noise is coming from.

Thanks Jeno. If coming from the injectors, would the ticking speed increase as the throttle increases? I have noticed the ticking speed increase as the revs increase.

Yes mine does the same it's just louder with the hood open all cars do the same just some are quieter because they have an engine cover to mask the sound I think yours sounds fine.
I can hear mine when I drive, windows up or windows down, it sounds awful. I think I'm gonna have to take it to a shop. Once I find out what the culprit is, I'll post and let you guys know.

Had a mechanic look at it. It's the lifter(s) for the rocker arm(s). Not sure of it's one or more until the valve covers come off. Gonna try a fuel injector cleaner first to see if that gets rid of the "ticking". If not, then I'll need to pull the covers to see which ones need to be replaced. Might as well do all of them once the valve covers are off. We'll see if the fuel injector cleaner does the trick. God willing it will.
