Post Note to Self...

Don't try to fool around with the V8 Firebirds.. they are quick. I was next to this red Firebird (most recent style body on it) and we were coming up on a light.. suddenly it goes yellow and he GUNS it. It just shot across that thing before it could think about flickering to red.

Anyhow, I found this guy's website from some random place. I forget where, it's another V6 forum though.

http://www.members.aol.com/andylittleton/tma.htm

He makes his own turbo kits and such, I know a guy at the meet was thinking about buying one from this guy and have him install it. The first ones look kinda risky, but later on they start to look more professional. Opinions? I ask because the guy lives here in Cali, and I've been in love with the spooling and blow off valve sounds of a turbo (not to mention the amount of power you will get from one)

I dunno, I'm probably wrong. I figured they were all called Firebirds lol probably a Transam, or it was one helluva fast V6

a V8 firebird is a firehawk. i almost bought one, had the super cowl hood, and said "FORMULA V8" on the side, had a ls1 or lt1 or whatever in it. that was waaaay back in the day, i bought the thunderbird instead for the same price.

crappy times? he must suck cause whatever lt1 the hawks have should be running mid 13's stock. theres a ****load of fbodies at my track that run consistent 13's all day, and some of the more modded ones have broke into 11's.

the formula's and firehawk's are different....They used to have v8 firebirds but i think their newest body style most if not all were v6.

the 95 formulas are fast as hell. the only pontiac id consider driving unless it was from the 60's early 70's.

Sounds like you ran into a Formula Firebird. My buddy has a 2000 Formula Firebird. It has the front bumper of a firebird and the firebird hatch. But is has a LS1 under the hood. If people know the difference between a Firebird and a Trans Am, then the Formula is a very sweet sleeper.

plus the Formula had a lighter body so it was a little quicker. The trans-am is the looks to show it's a V8

I beat the v8 bird with the lt1 on the race track off the tree. (fair race not a rolling street race)they run low 14s 14.3 14.4 to mid 13s 13.7 13.8with mild mods. The ls1 can do 13. 3 with just a lid 12.8 with a few more mods. Those cars can really fly espically the ws6 set up .My s/c v6 wacks lt1s but the ls1s are where the power is at. THEY hate to loose to a v6 Mustang. Its Ford justice if you ask me.

I just scrolled to the bottom of the thread and figured out what it was you were talking about. That's a bizzare board bug.

On the Fbodies, if it's a 93-97 V8 it has the LT1, 98-02 has the LS1. Only difference is that the LT1 is a forged block whereas the LS1 is an all aluminum block. Of course there's other differences, but that's mostly it.

The LT1 and the LS1 are totally different beasts. The LT1 is an cast iron block with aluminum heads, the LS1 is aluminum block with aluminum heads. The LT1 has 4.00/3.45 bore/stroke, the LS1 has 3.90/3.62 bore/stroke. The LT1s run siamesed intake/exhaust ports, the LS1 runs splayed intake/exhaust ports. The only real things they have in common is a pushrod/overhead valve configuration and eight cylinders. There are almost no parts that are interchangeable between the two.

I was just saying the LT1 is cast iron, and the LS1 is aluminum...not trying to explain all the differences lol

Neither block is forged, either. They're both cast. One in aluminum, one in iron.
