Rear mounted Turbos.......?

http://www.ststurbo.com/home

I was reading my dad's Chevy magazine and I saw this :

http://i.b5z.net/i/u/1473169/f/Press/STSCHP.pdf

They put a turbo system.. where the muffler goes....... 2: I know a lot of you guys know a crap load more about cars than I do, so please PLEASE explain how they are getting the numbers and such with the turbo mounted in the back? Check out the vids too, they are pretty sweet.

Curious if they could still put a super charger in the front, and turbo charge the back? 2:

theres 2 downsides to this setup.

turbo has lots of lag cause of the area between the turbo and engine.

the turbo takes longer to spool up cause of the length between the turbo and intake. thus it takes longer to pressurize fully.

most people look for "short route" piping when doing performance, shorter length of pipes less air needs to be moved and pressurized. especially when adding a IC because of the pressure drops associated with them.

these rear mount turbos do work though. on of the moderators over at the tccoa.com(thunderbird club of america) is doing the project right now. on a stock 4.6 V8 theyre prolly going to get a good 75hp out of 9psi. now if that engine was built and he was tuned expect to double stock numbers, possibly 400hp@14psi. and thats not even scratching the surface of the turbos abilities.

they said the turbo will produce full boost below 3000 RPM

Could someone explain how this whole setup works though?

its hard enough to install that thing with the car in the air, i dont know how long it would take someone to steal it when it was parked.

True, but wouldn't the muffler area be the LAST place they'd look for a turbo?

that's what I would worry about too, it has this "filter" thing you put on over the filter, but I'm not sure how well it takes care of water.

nah, the setup i saw they put the fulter up through the body and into the trunk, it had its own little vent for air that came from the rear fenderwells, and its own enclsure seperate from the trunk.

plus thats the kind of setup you wouldnt drive on a rainy day anyways, prolly more of a weekend monster or a track queen.
