Would I be considered crazy if...

if when i get the money to get a mustang but cant find any that I like but I buy a older miata instead and figure out a way to put in a 5.0 and a 5spd same concept as the cobra was based off...light car..big motor

i know its more then just putting in the motor and tranny though, would need all new rear end and prally alot of reinforcing the frame.

gonna start looking at anything from classics, to foxes and up. If i get a fox or classic thats pretty cheap I can keep the truck aswell if not I'll have to sell it then get the mustang. Whats the big difference between 86 and 87 for foxes? I see alot of parts for 87-92 whats that much of a difference in 86 to where they wont fit or will they and they just aint telling us. I didnt think foxes really changed much from 79-93 except for the 4 eyes foxes and the few years from 79-?? when they had the 5 or 6 taillights instead of the squared ones with the long reverse light on top.

*BTW* R.I.P. lil 87+ fox I seen today get clobbered by a mini van

yep.

a miata engine bay is probably WAAAAY too small for a 5.0.

I almost bought a miata for my first car instead of a stang. Boy am I glad I didn't. I'd be posting at some ricer forum, playing NFSU for the rest of my life.

ive seen miatas with 5.0s... you could have an 800 hp miata i would still probably beat you in a car with half the power and twice as heavy, cuz... there aint NO way you would ever hook up that car

thats y u wouldnt put 800hp in it cut down a 9" rear and tada with 4:10s or more.

prally would have to make where the transmission goes down the middle of the body bigger to accept a mustang 5spd though

Dude just buy you a fox and keep the truck. There is always some kind of use for a truck. Thats why i've decided i'm hanging onto the truck and then will save up for a fox.

I will trade you. I like rangers. 4.0's with gears are pretty quick. Save up & buy a factory five cobra kit. Check out my thread in the lounge.

Actually theirs a company that has a 5.0 conversion kit out for the miata. There was a link posted in one of the local boards im in. Ill look for it in a few. but its very possible. But as someone else suggested why not a fox? you want handling and braking then just buy the right components and you'll out handle a miata with power backing you up.

Years ago when I was still a sailor there was a company selling California smog legal Miata's with 5.0's in them.

They fit.

theres a whole writeup somewhere on the miata 5.0 swap. definately not what someone would look for in a drag car, even with slicks youd have a hard time getting a 2.0 60ft. but on the freeway the thing would rape in stock form, let alone modded out to its potential.

plus you can go around and sing "take me on" corky romano style.
