Tupac was good and his music actually made sense. he had a purpose with his music. He wasn't just regurgitating the same old lyrics about how is ****ed this chic...going to shoot this person and that person. Sure, he had some songs with those lyrics, but, he put them in there as part of his overall album message. Besides, his songs actually sounded different from eachother and from every other rapper out there. When you hear a pac song, you know it is pac.

Rap these days sucks. Everything is the same. I try to stay away from the new stuff, although it would be nice if Tech N9ne would come out with a new CD.

And...Elvis > Tupac > Beetles ....... > mud > 99% of all hip hop/Rop groups coming out today.

EDIT: And if I want to hear a song about how someone hit this chick and that chick...I will put some of the older Too $Short in...at least it will sound good.

Wow a young narrow minded buckaroo!!! What constitutes old MUHAHAHAHHAHHAHA

I can agree with some old music being rather worn out from being played out but the fact remains most of the musicians today will be forgotten about because they are part of a PR machine who find it impossible to come up with therir own ideas and just remix and recopy other peoples work. Rap is not music, What instruments are they playing??? A record player is not a musical instrument, Rap is more like Ghetto Hood thug poetry while attempting to sing it.

Never understood why White kids listen to inner city rap especially considering most never been to a ghetto unless it was to buy a nickel bag. Most white kids are wannabee thugs MUAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHA

never understood why middle class honky white people listen to country especially considering most never been to a ranch. most of them are wannabee cowboys.

never understood why some mexican people listen to rock especially seeing as how they are supposed to listen to tejano. most of them are wannabee white people

never understood why some black people also listen to rock - i mean, black people are ghetto gangsta, right? they're supposed to listen to rap.

MUAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHA

i mean, i'm a redneck, so shouldn't i be listening to country while i'm out clearing land, or hunting???

what i'm trying to get at here is that it doesn't matter what race, color, or nationality you are. the fact that i'm a honky white cracker, doesnt mean theat i can't listen to rap or tejano, or reggae, or whatever i please.

Mexicans were there at the beginning of Rock. Rock is universal. Started by Blacks grabbed by whites.

Well it is your choice what you do with your life. I like hunting but dont particularly like clearing land or listen to country music

Actually what I am trying to get is that life and music did not start when you were born and to say anything before 1988 is old and sux is really just kind of funny and narrowminded.

As for me I listen to all music new and old. My biggest beef with music is then now more than ever the industry is filled with none talented wannabee musicians. Most either got where they are because of Videos with hot chicks or sisters or brothers of someone famous or They just have a hot body. Ashlee Simpson sucks ***, JLO cant sing here way out of a paper bag but she looks good, Mystical cant rap or sing but he sure has hot babes in his videos.
Just a bunch of no talent bumms who are otherwise below average singers or musicians making it with a gimmic and no musical ability.

Ok, here goes.

*Deep breath*

Rap is more than just talking into a microphone with hot, barely clothed chics, dancing around you. Granted, most of today's "talent" is nothing more than a PR campaign and as you said, a body. Rap takes skill. It may not seem like it, but, try and get up in front of a crowd, hell, in front of the mirror, and come up with rhymes that make sense and flow to the music. In reality, all rap is, is Rhythmic Poetry, set to music. Rhythmic Poetry is considered to be a art. Yet rap is considered anything but art.

Ok, now on to the "a record player isn't a instrument" concept. In the right hands, a record player can make just as good of music as someone with a host of instruments. Just listen to people like DJ QBert, Mix Master Mike, and the Invisible Scratch Picklz. There are many others, but those stick out in my mind. They can do more on the 1s and 2s than most "musicians" can on thier respective instruments. To be able to take a set of songs/sound bites/etc, blend them together, scratch over them, and still have everything flow as if it were all one, that takes some serious skill. Not to mention, you are doing it live in real time, not using editing software to "remix" a song.

When you listen to the greats, Tupac, :worship: Run DMC, early Too $hort, Early LL Cool J, etc...that is when rap was more than just a pretty face. It was real rap. It wasn't the same lyrics by different artists. And just because I don't live in the ghetto, that doesn't mean that I can't listen to rap. It just means that I am not from the ghetto and like the beats and flows of rap.

Oh, and on a side note, there were a ton of copy cats back in the 50s and 60s as well. There have always been copy cats, and their always will be. When a record company finds something that works, they all want to get in on it and up pop the copy cats.

Everyone has their own niche of music. I like everything from classical, to opera, to metal, to oldies (50s & 60s), to country, to hard core rap. The only kind of music I can't stand is the grunge/alternative/whatever other name it goes by these days. Then again, I hated metallica when they came out, now, I enjoy listening to their stuff. So, who's to say, this new junk might grow on me too.

Signed...a white wanna be gansta...

I never said that rapp artist were not skilled. I did say it was poetry and I never said it was not art. All I said was they are not musicians

Agreed to a point that it takes skill to do what they do to a record player but it does not make them a musician in the normal tense

never said people who dont live in the ghetto should not listen to Rap. I said people who are wannabees who talk, act, drive, walk like real Ghetto ganster thugs are WANNABEES!!! Plain and simple

Agreed white rock and roll copied Black music to start with. Including the beatles when they were still a bar band but they and others progressed and wrote and sung their ow music. yes there will always be copycats but now more than ever people are covering other peoples music and rap is the worse

That is cool I do not listen to any one Genre of music but all types of music. There just happens to be some I prefer to listen to less than others.

now that's a completely different story.

i went to highschool with those kids. their parents buy them everything they want and they have more money then i ever will, yet they still come to school dressed like thugs, and they talk about how ghetto they are and how hard it is for them to make it in "the game".

this was the kind of thing i heard all the time - from white kids mind you:

"you G, we gunna score some dro and cruise the south side. we gots to represent! aint nobody **** with us! we hard! someone's gunna get capped!!!"

i hated those kids.

i listen to rap, but i'm nothing like that...

As far as some of this stuff goes, I think the thing a lot of people are trying to get at is that you should not be able to tell what kind of music someone listens to by the way they dress. If you can tell what kind of music someone listens to by the way they dress they are trying too hard and are not being themselves. That being said you can usually tell with punks and the kids who think rap is the ****. Punkers are just as bad of losers too, they always complain about trends but then they all follow the trends within their group. I doubt every punk arbirarily thought to themselves putting patches on their clothes looked cool. Same with rappers, their crowd always have to make sure "their kicks is clean". Who the hell cares.

I admire people that listen to different types of music, I don't personally like Rap but it doesn't bother me that other people listen to it until they start trying to flaunt the fact as if it makes them special or something.

And why the hell would you have to represent? Who the hell cares? Why can't people just be normal? lol
