need some PC help...

this is for my GF's PC, (broke school kid..) but she has a Dell Inspiron 8600, with win Xp (w/ sp2) 40gig HD,512 stick of mem., (with only 12 gig left ) AIM is havin probs, lags a little on COD, word files opened in "read only", and its just been slow and blaw. I thought just everything that happened/s write it down and email Dell and have them deal with it. yeah yeah its a dell, but they are good for college kids that need a "good" pc.

if i were her i would reformat the hard drive...this makes it as if the computer were new, but you need to save any important data to something (like floppy, cd, jump drive, etc.)...

Did she dl the new servicepack? It's been known to make a few computers lag. It's only one out of a dozen, but it does it on some of them. Just an idea. Go through and delete the servicepack2 or whatever it's called and see if that fixes it if nothing else works.
