the 3.8 that could...

havnt told this story on the board yet, i told a few people, so, here we go

friday night (same night i had my bad tooth problem), i was coming home from Dave and Busters, i left there at about 11:40pm, let the car warm up, changed CDs, and was off, im driving dont the Rockville pike, music loud, get on 495, no problems what-so-ever, i get on I95, and im doing about 75-80mph, and the car feels like i have a front left tire going low, so i slow down a bit, and it keeps feeling low, so i decide to pull over, i pull over about a half past the 216 exit for laurel

this is where the party starts

i stop the car, and notice smoke in my headlights, i automatically look at my temp guage, it was reading in its normal position, so i get out, check my tires, all of which were fine, so i figure the crown of the road in the center lane was what made it feel like a low tire, i look at my temp gauge and it was a little higher, so i pop the hood, steam everywhere

the little devil and angel pop up on the sholder, the angel says "shut it off, let it cool down, then baby it home", the devil responds "what if it doesnt start back up, drive the ***** home", the angel pops up and say "thats a good idea, dont get stranded", the devil says "alright, get home as fast as you can, and blow the car up"

so i hop in, see a gap in traffic, floor it and im off, after about 3 minutes of driving 90+ mph, my temp gauge is in red, im hauling *** home, getting to 100mph at times, and my gauge stayed in the red, i reach down, turn on the heat, and its cranking!, i see my exit come up, so i slow down...a little...for the exit, i hop off on rt100, and im still doing 90mph, and the heat goes away, no heat at all, and my gauge is pegged

at this point, my toothache kicks in hardcore

so im still hauling ***, fighting pain, and trying not to hit anything, i make my exit, and get stuck at a light, still steam from under the hood, nothing from the tail pipe, i go, i floor it, and i tear off from the light, im clipping 65 in a 30, and then i get stuck behind a drunk driver doing 30, so im getting angry, my cars on the verge of death, it feels like im on the verge of death, so i just wait it out, he finally turns and im off again, i get onto my road, and i floor it, and amazingly, the car felt as if it had more power! i get in my driveway, shut if off, look for drips and go inside

turns out, through deductive reasoning, the thermostat was stuck closed, causing it to overheat, spewing all coolant, so i was riding with no coolant in the block, i most likely warped the head, but i havnt had the opportunity to mess with it because it hasnt been more than 25*, and now there is 7" of snow on the ground

my buddy did have an aluminum headed L98 (350 TPI), heads were shaved, compression was about 10.7:1, ran out of coolant, didnt even overheat it bad and the heads warped, i believe he said they were either .17 or .017 out, whichever number it was, it was pretty bad

lol i did the same thing with my tbird last july on my way to six flags. between the valley and LA theres a mountain range called the grapevine. its pretty much a 20-25* ascent the whole way up. so theres 4 people in my car(the tbird) and my neighbor has 4 people in her saturn ion. she was like "when you hit the grapvine, dont ditch me slow down for my car its not as fast". so we hit it and as soon as im 20 feet into the ascent my temp guage starts to rise and the check gauges light comes on. so i slow down a bit and what does she do? she takes off in her little ion, not trouble at all. so im like "dam this is ghey" so i roll down the windows, take the ac off and put it on heat, take cruise off, drop it in 3rd. well driving at about 2500rpm doing 50 i was having no power at all, it felt like my old 74 mustang 4banger, it was hard just keeping the car at 50. so i say "aww **** it, lets see wat this baby gots" and drop it into 2nd and tear *** up the mountain. by this time the gauge is past red and CHECK ENGINE is beeping at me. almost at the summit i reach a small dip and as soon as i hit that i floor it and hit 90mph, fly by traffic, and put the car in N and just coasted, and sure enough temps came down really fast, and the lights stopped beeping. and guess who i pass? yep little miss in her saturn.

the moral of the story? sometimes you just gotta say "**** it" cause you never know how good things might actually turn out. oh and for the return trip up the grapvine, i hit 90 before even reaching the ascent and just cruised up it no problems and was fine the rest of the 4 hour drive home.

well, that toothache was more than what it seems like

i was getting onto rt100, and m could feel it real bad, making my eyes water, and the pain spread up the side of my head, and it felt like so much pressure built up, and i couldnt hear, my entire body went tingly, my vison was really horrible, i couldnt judge distance or speed, i thought i was having a stroke

went to the hospital the next day, they did all these blood tests, nerve tests, cat scan...but didnt look in my ears or my mouth, and they basically said "go to a dentist"

that happened to me kinda.

I had an exposed root, but the dentist thought he might could just fill it, not root canal. So he sees the root, and gets his tweezer things, and says, " let me know if this hurts by raising your hand."

He squeezed the root, and I let him know, by raising my hand all the way into his face. knocked his glasses off, hahahaha.
