street legal

a friend of mine sent me this....its california laws for car modifications....it would be interesting to see how many ricers fit into this category, and if they enforced this more, how fewer cars would be out there lol

Thats a nice list. But you know whats funny is most states have those laws too. Just some dont give a rats ***. I fall into alot of those catorgies myself. but thankfully non that has to do with dumb arse lights. Kinda sucks for the true ethisuiest that love their cars though

Driving with just parking lights on (24800 VC). Vehicles that have factory-installed automatic daytime running lights must meet federal requirements and are legal.
Don't see the point of that law. Unless of course it is too dark to see without headlights being on anyways.

Most rice boys who street race think its cool to take off their headlights and just race wit their parks cause they think their stealth. When cops come most of those morons forget to put their headlights back on. I believe that would be the reasoning behind that law

That's acually a law in alot of states, MS being one for example..but cops around here drive around at dusk with just parking lights on, so they dont' enforce it much lol

that makes sense.

I didn't think about it since we have just one assy for both headlight and parking lights.

but still, why wouldn't they just turn on the parking lights and not the headlights instead of removing them?

nah theres a misunderstanding. I ment to say when they go to race they'll shut off their headlight lamps and leave the parks on

didnt mean they literally removed their lamps well unless their some turbo-ed car that needs the extra air then yeah they can remove the headlamp itself but thats just getting deep into it

ok, makes more sense.
******. I hate you.
misunderstood you.

I've also seen the cars running w/o one headlight for the ram air effect, so I guess that's where my brain was.

When I'm driving in thick fog I'll turn my lights off because they reflect off the fog too much. I'll leave my parking lights on and turn on my fog lights which are yellow and make it much more visible.

I think a lot of those laws are crap

I don't personally have lights but it says it's illegal just to have them on the vehicle, even if they're not operating. How can they make a law against that? There is no safety issue. You can generalize that most people who have them on there will use them illegally but you can't prove that any one person will.

lighted license plate frames except red? Why except red? Red has the longest wavelength and would be easiest on the eye but I doubt that's why they actually have the law. Your speedo is constantly in your vision and those don't have to be red. Why wouldn't they allow regular light on there, it would be equivelant to looking at oncoming traffic lights.

headlights that are brighter than factory are illegal. That doesn't make sense either. E36 headlights suck *** and so do my dads stock gt lights. I would say keeping the stock ones in is more dangerous than putting ones in that you could see better with as long as you don't distrub other drivers.

Blue and yellow headlights are illegal too? Mercedes, Bmw, Acura, Lexus, Audi....every company has a car that comes with blue colored HID lights now. And if I'm not mistaken the ferrari lights look yellow stock.

the whole light thing is just so you can have a feel for what other people were doing... if u see red ahead, you asume someone is braking correct? in the lane next to you, you see what and u assume someone is comming the other direction, amber generally for turn signals, and etc. you cannot fault them for wanting to make everything uniform to keep everything running more smoothly. what if someone had red headlights and was comming right at you? you know their lights are on but they could also be braking. understand?

I am not sure if you were trying to joke around or not. Although that is the main reason for them back in the day and maybe still now when you parked on the street or did something you had to have those lights on so you wouldnt get hit. Mostly all it does though it waste your battery. Sometimes I drive with them on but we only have 2 cops that patrol our whole city at 1 time.

Sorry to quote the whole thing, although I few things. First there is an inside joke about the general statement and I am laughing about that right now (most wont understand except red) and it says that you arent supposed tp have blue and yellow lights although It also states that the only lights that you are suppoed to have are factory, and thats exactly what those are so cops wont pull you over because if you are driving any sporty car being a bmw, mecedes, or even a mustang they usually wont give you the hassle because they assume that we know what we have and a car that they wouldnt even know the factory standards for.

You've seen Arts car, that's illegal. His car didn't come like that, nor are those lights factory but in my opinion they're more safe than his original lights. And his lights are rather blue but not intentionally.

I understand where Bane is coming from but I don't think most drivers think that way. Hell, most drivers don't even use their turn signals and half of their brake lights are out. Maybe it's just in california
