What part of emissions did you fail? If it's hydrocarbons you just need cats right? Maybe you have some unburned fuel.

But then he'll need new wheels...the costs just compile. What's wrong with your brakes? Rotors warped, pads gone..

rotors really should not be cut more than once (depending on thickness)... and when they are should be cut using an on car brake lathe to machine in hub runout...

if the mechanic is telling you the rotors need to be cut every 6 months but you don't feel any pulsation then he's full of ****..

I brake hard all the time and I'm still on original rotors with 26k miles..

ok i found out whats wrong. everything was fixed. the 6th cylinder is now operational haha, front breaks are on, new spark plugs (old ones were REALLY charred), new fuel filter (it was embarrassingly bad) and some new rear tires (i told him too because the old ones were pretty bad).

however, the emisssions are still failing. he told my dad (im still at college) that he needs to reconfigure the electronics or something? he gave my dad this huge list of things he needs to do such as.. let the car idle for 4 minutes, accelerate to 45 mph, stay above 40 mph for 6 minutes, stop and go 5 times, etc.. and he has to do this full process 6 times or something with full 6 hours breaks inbetween each run. he says this can't even guarantee it passing emissions for my next appointment in 4 days, but he won't put a sticker on it til it does.

drive really hard for at least a half hour before the test. do NOT turn off the vehicle before they test it, if need be stay inside the car till its your turn to test.

heats up the catalytics and allows them to burn more cleanly. also gets everthing running optimum running temp.

the first time my freind smogged his car he drive it for 2 minutes around the corner to the smog station and failed. the next day i told him we should drive around for a while and take it when its fully warmed up, went and smogged and passed with flying colors.

Yeah, I gotta pass smog right now but ever company has trouble cause their machines suck and they can't get anything to work properly. Last time I went they read my rpm's at 8000 at idle . And they have so much trouble cause my battery is in the back. You think they'd go through this daily and have some remedy.
