Gold screws? They are just regular old computer screws is all, and the clip in metal standoffs. I don't know about the powersupply being bad, I suppose that is possible, but it is running the power light on the motherboard...

doesn't sound like the bios, usually if its a bios problem the computer will cut on and supply power and all that the hard drives will spool but nothing else happens.

seriously doubt its the processor, I don't believe you get an audible when you lose processor, it could be ram, its not the hard drive, it could be the video card (yes you do get audible for no video) and it could be a number of controllers on the motherboard, but whatever it is its something thats part of the very core, before you even initialize the hard drive... e.g. something that the bios initializes before it gets to memory storage devices. i'd take the video card out and slap it in another machine to make sure its ok, then swap out the powersupply (though i've never seen a PS cause and audible either)

speaking of bios though, I think when I start buying motherboards im going to go ahead and order a second EEPROM chip (bios flash) because i've come very close to hosing enough myself, and its real pain in the *** to get another one later on, something to think about when you get your next board

oh yeah, forgot to meantion, make sure its not the ram, ram is natorious for just going out like that, but usually you'll get read write errors long before it just quits, take out the ram and put it in another machine

my cpu is on the suckzors list.... i think my mobo aitn right... it wont take a 220fsb and its probalby my fault due to my screw up on install...

my sata cable on my hdd was loose... i think this was my memory error perhaps.... but i stuck her back on but its still loose im gonna go buy another one and check to see if is stable... but im probably gonna send the mobo back while im still in my 30 day period (till the 28th ) so i can get my new one with out hassel.

he is talking about the brass standoffs you install between the back computer plate and the motherboard.

So you have

Checked with a known good CPU
Checked with a good stick of ram
Checked with a good Video card

Then you have only one problem left Like Brent said "Powersupply". Yours is making enough power to light the board and peripherals but cannot supply enough power to run the CPU.

Not sure, if it has eaten a new 400W power supply, if I put a 350 in there that may not last long at all?? I haven't tried taking memory from this machine and putting it in there, no, I did try a different video card on the old motherboard. And I did try swapping the memory from slot to slot on the other board. I haven't tried the other video card on this mainboard. I didn't use the copper standoffs, rather the clip in metal type which are the common ones used in Enlight cases, I think there might be one copper one on there, not positive on that though, Same mounts that were used on the other board when it was working though and it has the exact same mounting holes.

unless you have a bunch of lights and crap a 350w power supply will do perfectly fine, i had a 300 on my old cpu and she runs fine with 2 ide's 2 hdds, mobo, extra 120mm fan, aftermarket 80mm fan, etc etc

I think some motherboards use those screws as earth grounds also, but I wouldn't think a board would complain so much as to missing an earth ground that it would do that

i'd try a different video card first

Well, the only other video card I have I already tried on the other motherboard which was probably fine... I could try switching some memory around or swapping the video cards between the two computers, sort of hate to do that, risking breaking down my only working computer, lol.. Oh well.

These were both for all intents and purposes new computers built in old cases. There was very little at all used except the cases themselves. The one that is broken was rebuilt pretty much from the ground up with new power supply, new mainboard, memory, a slightly used XP 3000 processor, new tv card from ATI, and a new dial up modem. Nothing from the old computer was used but the old enlight case and that got a new 400w power supply in it.
