Potato Gun

Well, everybody has made them right? So my friends and I decided we wanted to make a really nice one with some major power. Here's what we did: we began on our journey by making the gun out of steel, not pvc. We put it together and decided that if we wanted a good boom, we should use something better than a flint. Subsequently we made our potato gun have a spark plug to ignite our fuel. So what's next, fuel itself. We didn't want to use hairspray cause we wanted something more powerful; therefore we decided to use gasoline. Now, we need to get power to our spark plug to ignite the gasoline...a car battery we decided on just because we were using everything else from a car. What a powerful spark we got. However, now we need the fuel to atomize because the gas is saturating the spark plug. Anybody have any ideas on how I can utilize an injector for this thing? As it is right now it's still mobile, but even if it wasn't that's ok...it's more of a potato cannon now anyway. But even then if I want all of this to work properly I may need a distributor. Think I'll be done after that? I wont need anything to charge the battery nor will I need anything similar to a fuel pump cause I have other ideas for that. I think I should have just taken the heads off of the maxima in my backyard and stuck a tube down the combustion chamber and called it a potato gun...

Just get a taser and put it in the gun, you cant beat a spark that is 2 inches long.

As for gasoline, I don't know about that. I mean it's powerful but if it's all for a tater gun than I think it'll just be a headache. Get a propane tank, regulator, and 1 way valve. Just turn it on for like 5 seconds, then close it and hit the taser.

Me and my friends have launched potatoes across a lake about a 1/2 mile wide and hit houses with the thing. Just a 2 inch barrel, 5 inch combustion chamber, and a cap. Cheap and fun.

^^^exactly. its almost impossible to get the right mixture with gas in a potato gun. propane would be your best bet. get some valves and fittings and make a bracket that holds the little propane bottles to the side.

i have some 2.5" steel piping leftover. i think i might either make a really cool bong or a potato gun.

Hehe, yea...

If you search around online they have plans to build a gun that'll launch a FULL potatoe up to a mile. Cost about 200 bucks to make the whole system.

Forget the propane.
Get a cutting torch, and give it 5 sec of Acetylene then 2 shots from the oxygen .

You better have a good sealed beefy *** potato canon because this is highly dangerous.

Believe me I know.

I imagine yours blew up? How can I make mine better? Shooting a 1/2 mile to a mile would keep me satisfied. Perhaps I'll take a look at what you guys are talking about.

I know this may not be much help, or produce the desired spark. What my friends and I used to use were those igniters from gas grills, drill a hole glue or screw that puppy in there and just press the button. Not sure if it will work for your particular application, but it could be a cheap fix.

I had that type of results by using Axe Body spray. just using two metal screws and a grill lighter. Works real nice and alot better wit the propane

But ours is like a good 5 ft in stance. its more along the lines of a spun cannon

what i did when i made one was to drill a hole in it and pull a tire valve stem through the hole. Then you can put the gas in it and compress the air with a compressor like a car engine and BOOOOOOM! I did the spark plug thing too, I just hooked the spark plug up to the wire on a weed wacker and pulled the rope to get spark.

Remember, a BBQ spark igniter is an easy screw on,push button instant spark that will suffice to ignite a volotile liquid or gas.

Shock em in the back of the neck or behind the ears with em Whitestang lol.

The gril lighters work but I think they fail after awhile from all the gnk that gets built up on em. I tried the two screws thing and that stopped two because of gunk.

You just gotta find the perfect mix of power and non-gunkiness and you'll have your fuel.

Propane is awesome seriously, I'm gonna get a pic of my gun tomorrow or the next day and then maybe a vid of it shooting. Despending on this weather...

didn't read all of these, but a particularly good propellant is PCV glue

just have to let it set for a while
hair spray is defininetly more powerful than gasoline... just look at the ingredients
