wanna know how to destroy a turbo?
anyone want to know how to destroy a brand new Evo16g Turbo in less than a hour?
well this guy in our group, so impressed with me and my freind zanes evo16g, decided he wanted to join in on the fun. bought one and went to my freinds house to install it today. by the time i got off i head over there and everything is bolted on and looks good. though i didnt do a complete check of everything, i assumed my freind has done enough turbo installs to know whats up.
so i install the safc2, injectors and fuel pump and get the **** dialed in, we drive around for a good half hour at 11psi to get the turbo broken in and what not. so on the way back from stockton(where my freinds house was) he hits it and it sounds like a outboard on a boat when you are doing a test run(outboard engine in a big bucket of water, boat in dry land, dont ask.....) so im like "wtf dude pull over" so we pull over and start looking around, everything looks good, so he turns the car on and huge billowing smoke out the ***.
i pull off the intake tube to see the compressor blades are all chewed up. i then get under the car and start poking around, and feel my way to the Oil Return Line, and low and behold, its crimped up(its a flexable tube). apparently my freind put it on and said it should be fine, hardly any oil goes through the return anyways. which is a crock of ****, seeing that the feedline is SS line and comes from the filter housing, of course theres gonna be alot of oil going through the return tube to the pan. so i take off the lower IC pipe to the sidemount, and out pours 2 qts of oil onto the ground.
so to make a long story short. oil built up inside the turbo, forcing the inducer side out and the compressor side in, chewing the blades, prolly killing the center cartridge at the same time, then pressurizing till it spewed through the turbo seals into the compressor outlet and to the intake pipes.
i was able to get him running though, fixed the return tube(made it alot shorter so no crimps in the flex line) and filled him with oil, connected the intake straight to the IC pipes so bypassing the compressor(intake) side of the turbo(cause its basically leaking oil like a mofo) so he can drive home. so he now drives a n/t gst. ill let you guys know more tomorrow. maybe if i get the turbo off some pictures of the bloodshed.
