Yeh, cash talks in dealerships. Wish someone with a Pre-99 would chime in. I'm not very knowledgable *sp on what to look for on those models as far as little quirks go.

Bleh...I am not into either of those Ebay Stang links, no offence but the colors on both of them are boring. Plus I don't want a GT.

Can you tell I'm picky?

look for a 99+ for that price, then talk them down to 5k even. with the 05's out, you should be able to get at least an 03 for what they're asking.

Just don't get screwed at the dealer. There is no worse feeling than paying on a car for years only to find that you still owe more than it's worth. Been there, done that.

Good luck, keep us posted!

Check if the car idles normal. Check for oil at engine start up. Go to the front wheels a see how much brake pad is left. feel the rotors for smoothness. Take for a drive and manually shift the automatic from drive to 2nd and down to first several times to see if a engine light appears. Press down on the front of the car and quickly let go to check and see if the struts are worn. If they are it will bounce up and down. If they are not it will just spring back up.

Dealers will actually disconnect the battery at night and rehook it up in the morning to cancel any engine light that might come up. They will also remove the engine bulb to prevent the code from showing. Best thing to do is ask them to get them to let you drive the car for a while for you to decide.

well if i were you i would go with a GT or at least a 99 up 6er. then i would never spend near 6.8k for that car, you have to work them down a ton, i bet they got that car for about 3 or 4 grand tops. so they will be making far to much at your expense. and do what lowflyn said, bring cash take it or leave it but make sure its no where near 6,800 go for like 3 grand or 3 and a half.

you're welcome to buy my '89 5.0/5 speed

only needs minor rocker panel and floor pan work to be a very solid car... was driven daily for 6 months, new brakes, new hubs/axle seals/pinion seal
The motor's tired but it runs, fires up every time

AHHH, I don't want a GT I just want a newer model Mustang that doesn't look or run like my Piece-O-Crap 1990 LX Fox!

The car lot that has the 98 Mustang has already had it inspected at a garage and it has already had everything fixed or replaced on it that came up on the code scanner.
How do I know this? I was there!

I Already know that the 98 Mustang that I've have been looking at is in great condition, I have already driven it, I have already inspected everything that I could think of, and it has passed every red flag test I could think of with flying colors!

The only thing I didn't think of was to shift it down to lower gears while driving and look for an engine light, Thanks "Danger Dude" I'll try that before I decide!

I know that there are plenty of other Mustangs out there for sale but how many of those have been taken care of? I don't want end up with someone elses problem, I have already been there and done that one too many times! If I pass up a car that has been cared for like this one to keep looking for the rock bottom price I will end up with some piece of junk that someone ran into the ground and is trying to sell cheap so they can ditch it!

I just don't know what to do, I am tired of pouring money into the one I have only to be rewarded with more problems, I want a nice looking Mustang that I can actually drive with out having to pray that the transmission doesn't fall out!

But back on subject, if you want that car, then go in there and tell them exactly what you'll give them for it. You know what you're willing to spend and they know how low they're willing go. If those two match up then you'll be good to go. Car looks good, and it looks like you've done all the background work, I say good luck

I think I am going to give the car one more look over, and if everything checks out I'm going to go for it! I really like this car, and it is the best one I have seen yet!

Believe me I have looked quite a few of the same year model for around the same price that can't even compare to the condition of this one!

Especially considering that it is 7 years old and looks almost new inside and out, I think someone must have babied this one!

Did anybody catch that it has a swirly maker on it? If you do happen to get that car, rip out that TB spacer.

Who said I was a guy?

I would rather have an automatic since I just love Mustangs for they way they look and not how fast I can make it go. I do way too much stop and go driving to have a 5 speed.

[QUOTE=Horse]Did anybody catch that it has a swirly maker on it? If you do happen to get that car, rip out that TB spacer.]

I have never had a TB spacer on a car before, can you tell me what purpose they serve?

Thanks!

Well damn I am 1 out of 10. That makes me special I had nothing but 4 speeds and 5 speeds my whole life that is 28 years of driving. I am glad I got a auto. I can actually drive my car and drink my coffee at the same time. It is the year 2005

Cars no longer have hand cranks to start
Street Motorcycles dont have kick start

So why should you have to shift your tranny Maybe in 1906 but in 99 years I think we can safely say most adults dont want to shift. But I understand those who do. There is a neanderthal need for especially young neanderthal men to feel superior and be the master of their minimal domain and shift there car is one of them, as is chopping wood or bragging about recent conquest on women they have scored with. The problem is there are no wooly Mamoths to hunt down and kill so you can paint the story on a cave. So you are reduced to shifting your car.

So to you I salute Mr Neanderthal who still needs to shift your car. You carry the torch of a century gone by and like it!!! I am sorry there are no more Wooly Mamoths to hunt and paint pictures on the cave. But oh well

Just curious but what does a Thottle Body Spacer do anyway?

I have never had one...
