rap will never die as long as it makes Blacks and some whites feel like they are something special because they can walk around with baggy cloths, where those stupid flat hats, talk in god knows what language and make them think it's all about money and hoes. Not to mention you got to have your caddy w/ 22's and (2) 15's and a concealed pistol so you can cap a mother ****er if he looks at you wrong... because now your a badass.

Rap music doesn't have any substance anymore. Back in the early 80's, rap was cool. After Gangsta Rap overwhelmed the mainstream, it spelled the beginning of the end. The Era of rap being intelligent was gone.

Rock music comes and goes in swells. But if you don't like how rock is going, blame the recording industry. Blame all the bands that came after green day with the pop punk thing. Blame recording industry execs for not being responsible enough to their customers (you and me) to sign more than a one hit wonder TRL reject band. Remember there was a time back in the 80's and 90's when bands were really good and talented and stayed around for years, and had mulitple platinum quality records(guns & roses comes to mind) Now what do you have? Linkin Park? The industry has lowered it's standards, plain and simple.

That's not really my point. How many bands these days hove any sort of longevity? (I'll agree linkin park isn't a good example for my above post)

I'm talking about the ratio of one hit wonders to legitimate bands. There aren't nearly as many as there used to be.

The funny part to me is that the industry is feeling the preasure, but passing the loss to the consumer.

ex.-
If you liked a band well enough and they had a FULL DISK of songs worth listening to, you'd probably go buy the CD. However, since the industry still swears up and down that music costs so much to put out that the disks are still over 15 bicks most times, the public has gotten more picky about what they buy. Enter P to P networks.

Common sense tells me that if there's only one song worth it's salt, you'd only want that one. (also, ever notice you can't buy a single any more?) Why would you buy a disk if 11 of the 12 songs on it were trash? Get that one song from your buddy, right?

Not really. The industry will take NO responsibility for the quality of it's product, and will systematically sue everyone they can to recoup their losses. People have been sharing music long before the internet. But now, record companies don't need your record sales to make money, they just need you to have the music.

Bear in mind I'm a bit of an extremist. But I do think The industry is responsible. Whether they fess up to it or not.

I agree with you but there are still a few new bands that are very good and put out alot of good music. But I do agree that there are to many one hit wonders.... thanks American Idol.

America has learned to be entertained cheaply. The industry has learned that they can still charge the same price that they always did.

Basically, the industry is calling us stupid.

At least these conversations are a catlyst for thought.

The other thing to notice is that these things tend to stay pretty civil here.
Other places, this would be an all out flame war.

i hate record companies and hope they die in a fire.

besides, all the bands i talk to who have record deals, get next to nothing from their record sales. a band i know said they sold 1000 copies and they made enough money to swap out the alternator in their van. but they got a 500,000$ check for going on the warped tour a few years back.

as long as record companies continue to blame p2p networks on their declines and stop looking at themselves, theyre gonna keep losing money. like Bono from u2 said, "crap music makes for crap sales", perhaps one of the reasons U2 is one of the greatest bands of our time.

btw dont all rap songs nowadays share the same backround beat and music with at least 5 other rap songs. if i remember "Yeah" by usher was a Lil Jon song.

yea, mainstream rappers share beats, it's not cool, but they figure that since they're already rich, they don't need creativity any more... but tempo is the main thing. most people can only rap on certain tempos.. too fast or too slow, and they wouldn't even be as good as they are... not that that's saying much in most cases of mainstream rap, but tempo is probably somewhat to blame also

232stang01 - I like your views on the recording industry. You make alot of valid points

As for good bands out today that you can listen to an album from start to finish has to be Tool/APC, Incubus (just to drop name) basically those that dont get pushed cause they arent marketable as the label wants them to be sadly enough

ah well thank you MTV for the mindless babble that fills the young youths of today

BTW I buy cds all the time. Just cause they are getting cheaper my average for a cd is 9.99 havent spent more then 13.99 on a cd :yup:

I love it when new cds come out at bestbuy or they have to many of them because then I see the price drop to like 6.99
