This will also go down in history as the first presidency where a president's religious convictions become the country's new set of morals.

You dont get it. This is the first president in recent times that felt the way the majority of Americans feel. That is why he won. You have things backwards!!!!

Disagree on what. We dont elect presidents based on what they want we vote based on what we want. The people voted and a majority did not want Kerry. Convictions of voters dictate what they want in the president. You seem to have the opinion the president has some hypnotic powers over the American people to make them moral. All the president does is act as a moral compass for the country based on the peoples values. After the collapse of the Soviet Union and the taking down of the Berlin Wall the Cold War was over and the shift went to Left of Center for a while. After Clinton there was a shift back to right of center do in large part the action of Clinton.

You'll notice that both of those thoughts are separated. Neither sentence runs into the other.

the first quote refers to republicans in general. (as in what I quoted in the post on page 2)

(separating sentences by both a duck and space)

For the second line, take it as you will.

Well roughly 40% of the people are Republicans and 40% are Democrates leaving 20% in the middle independents. These people make up the swing that leads our country. In the 90's they swung left of center. now it has swung back to the right in the new Millennium.

The President's job is what?(reference post 46) Maybe I DO have it wrong. See, When I voted for a president, I based my choice on who I felt would be the best qualified to act on behalf of this country in the formulation of foreign and domestic policy, acting as the #1 liason to the world, and doing right by the citizens of the country to uphold the Constitution and also maintain economic security and a reasonable quality of life for all law abiding citizens who are willing to work to improve their own lives as well.

If an individual feels that they cannot figure out their moral standpoint for themselves, there are plenty of venues which a person can turn to, in the form of a church, temple, etc. It is entierly a conflict of interest to have an elected official functioning in the capacity of a spiritual and moral advisor. That is not why this president, or any president for that matter, is or has been elected to office. If this were the case, there would be more than 50% of the country claiming to be Evangelical Christian. 83% of the country call themselves Christian, while only 37% of those describe themselves as Evangelical (born again) Christians(29% of the population) If your statement rings true, the Catholics(22%) and the Protestants(53%) would possibly have voted differently.

My point is simple. People need to have their own Moral Barometer. It is not the President's job to use his position to influence things in this country that are not based in legislation or other legal frames. It is a conflict for the President, who after he is elected is sworn to represent 100% of the citizens, not only the 51% (or whatever the percentage was) that voted for him, to use his public position in order to further certain religious beliefs or show support for one side or another in any debate that is base on spiritual foundations, thereby alienating the american citizens who happen to be on the other side of the fence.

You'll notice that throughout this post, I have not mentioned John Kerry, or any other political name. It's not about Who won the election, because we already know who won. This is about what the President's job is. (and isn't)
