the passport 8500 is awesome... ive used it countless times and that thing literally detects cops up to 3 1/2 miles away. Defanitely get that detector if you can afford it.

How much you want to spend?

No cost limit BEL Pro RX65, Escort Passport 8500 X5 or the Valentine One in that order. $330-$340-$400 in that order.

Root around at http://www.radartest.com for info on lesser priced stuff or to see the top of the line comparisons.

Radar detectors are great for the city, but on the highway, you can't beat a CB tuned to channel 19, definately works, truckers are awesome. But yeah, I have always heard the Valentine One is good, if you can afford it.

CB's are kinda useless on the highway I take home at night. No traffic to speak of for about 70 miles of it. Hence the 80+ I usually do on it.

I just use mine when I'm going down the highway, normally enough 18 wheeler traffic to keep me busy. When I go back to my rent's house, it's nothing but wide open flat lands, you can see the cops 5 miles away, no need for anything.
