ok if you can find a way to toast a mostly stock 3.8 you should definately stay away from a dsm. just cause mine is uber badass doesnt mean everyone else can be as godlike as me
. seriously dsm's have problems too, and if you dont know what youre doing you will be in a world of hurt. you think you know dsm's but you have no idea what youre getting into. take some time, browse some of the forums(dsmtuners.com, dsmlife.com) get acquainted with what youre looking at and what goals you want to do with the car and how much it costs, follow the tuning guides, etc. then see if you really want to go for it.
i lucked out, my dsm has been my least problematic and mostly modded car, which usually doesnt go hand in hand.
id say if you want to go fast out of the box and not have to worry about doing some turbo swap or learning how to tune, id go for a 99-04 GT. a dsm will have to have a mod list like mine(which was around 2k$) to be able to beat stock to mildly modded 99-04 GT's. or if you want to go faster then look for a LS1 fbody.
both the GT and LS1 are gonna rape you in insurance, but it will prolly already be plenty fast for your needs so the money youd use to mod it can be used on insurance. whereas the DSM will be cheaper insurance wise and car price wise, but slower out of the box, but the money you save can be used on mod parts to get to ls1/gt territory(13's). its a tradeff. i went with dsm cause i found one for cheap and i realized what people mean by "addicted to boost" the second i drove it.
