Cash for clunkers...

is ****ing stupid!!! ok maybe not really that stupid, but let me tell you where im coming from. Dumbass wants to trade in his car or truck thats not worth a damn for the $4500 tax break, that cool. But whats not cool is when the car is a 90 Fox Body that is in GREAT shape minus faded paint. 90 convert 5.0 5speed, and get this, with 46,000 original miles, and an interior that is in great shap also. WHOLLY ****, what the hell was this dumb *** thinking. This is up at my dealer right now just sitting there waiting for the engine to be locked up then crushed.

and on a second note, i dont get why it is called cash for clunkers, when the car has to be in running order. Am i wrong to think if its running, its not a clunker? should be called cash for old gas guzzlers, that makes more sense.

Re: Cash for clunkers...

straight from our website
Quote:
Overview of the Facts
Here's how the program will work: Car owners can get a voucher worth $3,500 if they trade in a vehicle whose original gas mileage was 18 miles per gallon or less for a vehicle that gets at least 22 mpg. The value of the voucher would grow to $4,500 if the mileage of the new car is 10 mpg higher than the old vehicle. The miles-per-gallon figures are listed on the new car's window sticker.

The intention of the ‘Cash for Clunkers’ bill is to encourage owners of older gas guzzlers currently on the road to trade them in for a better fuel efficient vehicle.

Once All Star takes possession of these vehicles, they must be scrapped. We can not sell any of these vehicles.

Our goal is to get customers to come into the dealership to discuss any pertinent information which should give you a better opportunity to profile customers’ needs and wants regarding a new vehicle.

When customers agree to purchasing a vehicle, there will be required paperwork the dealership must complete and submit. Supposedly within 10 days the dealership will receive credit for the approved sale.

Vehicles must meet these requirements…..
1. This program is only help customers with a trade-in vehicle valued at less than the amount of the voucher
2. Vouchers may be used for purchased or leased vehicles
3. Voucher amounts are in addition to any incentives offered by the dealer, manufacturer or government
4. Vehicles must be less than 25 years old
5. Insured/registered for a minimum of 1 year
6. Drivable
7. Customers can only choose the voucher credit or the trade in value of the vehicle. They can only take advantage of one offer.
8. The dealer must disclose the scrap value of the trade-in vehicle
9. The old vehicle traded in must be crushed
10. Some parts of the vehicle can be resold prior to crushing, but these parts can not include the engine or the drive train
11. Meet minimum miles per gallon requirements (detailed per manufacturer)
These rules are subject to change. CCD will keep you informed of all changes

Re: Cash for clunkers...

that sucks, cause a lot of cars aren't worth 3500 or 4500 (bluebook) and are fun to fix up and what not and people will be destroying them.

The only people that are going to kill it are the Americans dumb enough to trade in good cars.

That's like blaming guns for crimes.

That's why Summit and several other car automotive hobby organizations were trying to lobby against the program.

How much would a car like that sell for? With a little TLC it might sell for more than $4,500. Anyways thought about doing this deal with my grandpas Caprice and trade it for a 4 banger Ranger, until i found out I had to own the car for atleast a year and it had to have insurance for a year.

Re: Cash for clunkers...

i'm guessing the engine and tranny gets smashed with all that? that is really going to suck due to the fact some people don't know they have some nice treasures, and than those treasures get turned into a very huge paper weight.

can you turn in more than one car for a new one? just go out and snag a ton of old cars and have them pay for your new one

That would be sweet. Unfortunately you have to register/insure the car for a year before you can turn it in.

And without that rule a lot of $500 cars would've been gone pretty quick.

we have to put "liquid glass" in the engine and run it till it locks up. then the car is sent to the scrap yard to be crushed

Re: Cash for clunkers...

in order to qualify for the trade you have to get on average 18 mpg (new mpg based on window sticker)

and a 90 fox body is probably worth more than 4500 bucks ... however they are NOT rare or endangered lol people just think they are worth their weight in gold for some reason.

They destroy the car as well they dont resell it or anything.

while not rare, it is hard to find a unmolested one in good shape.

Ok, I think there is an unwritten law that says you must post this person's information so we can beat his *** for taking that car out of the market.

I told my girlfriend though she should've waited before she got her Mazda 3. She was driving a 98 Explorer and on trade in she got $1,500 and now she would've got $4,500.

Re: Cash for clunkers...

so they give some moron 4500 for the car, but you can "buy it" for 25k... sounds like a good deal...

guess all car enthusiasts will have to sit outside dealerships and try to catch the people trying to do this and offer them 4501 for the car...

This plan will probably work in bigger cities (LA, New York, etc), but small towns like mine, the rednecks around here love the hp and love fixing any form of muscle car despite the cost of gas or parts.

Once you trade in the "clunker" to the dealership, it does not belong to the dealership...The $4500 "trade-in" that you receive is kind of misleading...Typically, when you get a trade-in offer on a vehicle, the money/value for the trade-in comes directly from the dealership/car company, which means that it would be their vehilce to resell or do with as they see fit...For the "Cash for Clunkers" project, the (up to) $4500 is not actually coming from the dealeraship, its actually money fronted as a form of "credit" from the federal government...It's actually the government "buying" the car from you for $4500, but they are using dealerships as the middle men to destroy the cars...The clunkers are not the dealerships property to sell...

It basically goes down like this...you trade in your clunker for a new car, & you receive up to $4500 for your clunker which is taken off the price of the new car, regardless of the clunker's value...The dealership is actually reimbursed the $4500 amount by the federal govt...So really you're not getting a trade-in but more of a tax-credit so to speak...you are trading your car to the government with the understanding that the dealership must have it destroyed...

if the dealership is left to destroy these cars I can already see the law suits from dealerships saying they destroyed them but reselling them etc etc

Those damn liberals. Increasing our debt by 6 trillion dollars from 2000-2008... oh wait.

Those damn liberals violating the constitution by spying on Americans....

Those damn liberals putting religion ahead of science and stopping stem cell research.......

Those damn liberals violating state rights by trying to ban gay marriage at a FEDERAL level........

Fast forward to 2009.........

Those damn liberals trying to pass a law making California accept Alabamas concealed carry permit..... for example.....

The point is... SHUT UP ABOUT LIBERALS AND CONSERVATIVES. God damn if that isn't the most annoying **** in the world to see someone cry about liberals or cry about conservatives.

Do you people not realize they are both ****ing terrible hypocrites.

Most of you people in Alabama don't want the Federal Government telling you to accept Californias gay marriage license. Why the hell do you people in Alabama think its acceptable to make California accept your Conceal carry license?

God damn. This country annoys the **** out of me sometimes. It's like never ending hypocrisy.

Liberal. Conservative. Shut up. You both suck. God damn!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Nothing is ever going to get accomplished in this ****ing country because this country is so ****ing stupid.

I say that with the most love possible.
