generally, Ford would detune the engine horsepower if the transmission was weak

even back in the 80's, the 87-88 TC with a 5-speed got 190 horsepower, but if it had the A4LD tranny, 150 horsepower

The A4LD is quite possibly the worst transmission I have ever encountered.

It does a good point, the ability to select any gear. I could pop mine in 1 and hold it there as long as I wanted. It would shift pretty hard between gears as well.

It was just crap for longevity. With my experience with them they would last <100K miles.

I converted both my Stangs to T-5's because I wanted something that would not strand me somewhere and rob my engine of its power.

If you want to do that then fine you do that. I'll take the convience and the same quarter mile as the guy next to me in a t-5 with the same mods.
/me snickers calm down man, don't get transmission envy
