So i just bought a G-Tech

Went on ebay and got a G-tech pro for like 33 bucks shipped brand new. I know theyre not REALLY accurate, but itll be fun to play around with. Anyone used one before and have any comments on them?

Use the same g-Tech several times, take an average of the readings to get somewhat useful information.

Nothing beats the Track or Dyno, but like you said, it would be fun to play with it.

G's, torque, and a bunch of other settings on the special model. Plus you can log them with a program to your pc so you can "study" them.

theyre generally 3mph faster in the 1/4

they arnt the greatest for getting specific numbers, like your true 1/4 mile time, but they are good to show changes

The new ones that are over $150 are supposed to be very accurate now... as long as you enter the weight of the car w/ driver, and calibrate it correctly.

so how do we hook it up? do we need to be at the track to use it? or can we do a 1/4 mile run anywhere there is a straight line?

anywhere in a straight line. You just turn it on and it will give you read outs based on your acceleration g-load.

it's really just a very sensitive g-meter internally calibrated to compute 0-60, 1/4, hp, tq, etc based on known calculators. That's why it is off by usually 1-2%. The newer ones are slightly more sensitive and thus more accurate.

It's just like a pager sized thing that sunction cups to your windshield. Then a power cord goes to your cig lighter. It uses accelerometers(I think 3??) and basic formulas to calculate everything so it doesn't have to be spliced into a wire somewhere in the car.

I looked into getting one but it's a pretty pricey toy.

ya, they're pretty cool actually. I used one once a long time ago before the 4.2 swap and all that. I was getting 15.6-15.7 1/4 times with it.

I have the same one I bought on ebay a while ago and everything is "pretty" close except for hp...for some reason it likes to give huge hp numbers...guess its wants to boost our egos

think of them is a way to measure improvment, if they are off... but the amount they off is the same each time then when you add a mod and gain XX percent or loose XX percent thats relativly accurate over all~ so if you go from a 14.5 to a 14.0 that doesnt mean you run 14.0s but it does mean you just shaved off 14.0/14.5 x 100 percent from your times.

15.11@103.9

according to the ET, it should have 218 at the wheels, which is a bit optomistic

dam fast that snEEC-IV thing looks badass. if i was still into modding the tbird id get that in a heartbeat. its the same exact thing as my PocketLogger setup on my palmpilot does for my dsm, you can go back and see where you need to make changes to the fuel curve based on o2 voltage readings and timing.

sorry to get off topic but EclipseGSTdude might want to change your signiture. GA-DSM representing. I wanted to get a DSM but there wasn't a way to get a regular loan, so my only option for a car was my stang. my brother had a bad *** 92 talon TSI AWD but he parted it out sadly. and yes that seems kinda like DSM pocket logger.
