My latest "Experiment", saving fuel $$$

My main "car" is a 95 ch*vy Tahoe 4x4 with towing package.
It was getting around 10-12 MPG around town lately when I
saw a newly available fuel around here called "E-85"
which is 85% ethyl alcohol and 15% gas for a net octane rating
of 105 So I started the inner wheels churning and came up
with a plan, I would try about 10 gallons and see what happened.
I knew the 105 octane could tolerate a good bit more timing but
would it need more timing? I believed it would need more and I was right.
Stock timing is 0* (TDC) because of the heavy truck and 87 octane,
I have not had a timing light on it yet but I think I have added 10*
or more timing total. Now I think it needs more idle speed, sometimes
it dies but overall I believe it is getting better mileage (!) and
feels like it has better torque. I can accelerate w/o downshifting more often.

More later!

Dunno if a 95 GM product still has it but the older ones had a provision to adjust the idle air bleed, essentially it was a screw that adjusted the butterfly's closed position. Open it up more for more idle speed.

If it doesn't have that provision you can drill a small hole in the butterfly to allow more air in. Start small and work up.

In a truck aerodynamics will help more. My 2005 Ram gets about 18 mpg highway and 14 city if you drive like grandma. Don;t forget tire pressure.

You should only use that fuel on a vehicle that is set up for it. It is not suppose to be good for most vehicles.

thats what i've heard. my friend has a 2000ish sentra and used that gas while we had it b/c it was cheaper and it clogged up his injectors and the car also idled rough and sometimes killed, as well as having trouble starting---problems he never had while using real gas.

personally, i wouldnt put that in my car, but if it helps you then and i hope you dont run into any problems

The ethanol in the E85 fuel is a very aggressive cleaner. If you have any gunk in there is will end up in your filter if you are lucky and it may plug up your injectors with it.
