New Louisiana Law

A new state law went into effect in Louisiana this month and i don't know why we took so long. You are not allowed to drive in the left lane unless you are passing someone. Maybe now people will learn to drive on the right and not bottle up traffic behind them. I have had it with people that are left lane drivers. I have seem to many drivers that just plant themselves in the left lane, and drive only to switch to the right lane to make there turn. They are not even doing the speed limit!
The police in this area are actually writing tickets for this to, the fine I believe is 130.00.

Re: New Louisiana Law

its a good law... but if you are going the speed limit in the left lane they should not be able to do anything being such that the law is you can not go over XX mph and i fyou are not then they can basically... get over it police or not (unless on a call then what they can only go 10 mph over).

I dont ride the left lane just saying.... I hate when I am going faster than the right lane (but going the speed limit) and going around cars and someone is riding my *** all upset.

What roads does this apply to? Obviously interstates, but I'm sure it doesn't apply to all 4 lane streets/roads around here. If so, then the city is going to make a ton of money during rush hours. lol

I agree as long as I am behind someone doing the speed limit I give plenty of room (most of the time ). There is more and more people that must think they own the road. I have also almost been *** ended several times lately because I try to stop when the light change to yellow.

Re: New Louisiana Law

great law. we need that nationwide.

also, it should be a law to get in the left lane when there is an onramp with people merging and the left lane is clear. i hate when im trying to accelerate onto a highway and there is some ****** that doesn't get into the left lane when its wide open.

Re: New Louisiana Law

The left lane law was passed in PA when I was living there. It didn't do any good though. People were still planting themselves in the left lane and were driving slow (under the speed limit.) The cops never enforced it, they would rather pull someone over for something stupid like window tint, haha.

Some people live life in the fast lane - I live in oncoming traffic.

Really though I spend a lot of time in the left lane. I'd get a lot of tickets it sounds like down in LA.

No! That is blasphemy! Nobody should ever have to get over for anybody merging on the interstate nor slow down! The interstate should be unchanged for people entering it. It is the merger's responsibility to assume the speed of traffic and find an open lane.. that's why there is an onramp.

Re: New Louisiana Law

That law would just completely melt the brains of the people of Louisiana. Hell, they still don't understand what a blinking yellow light means when the signal lights go out. Everyone still treats it as a 4 way stop. Yellow <> stop.

Merging is a dirty word down here...no one can grasp the concept.

Actually when a stop light goes out it is to be treated as a stop sign.

Only when it is out, The radio stations here tell everyone when the light flashes it is a four way stop. If there is a blinking yellow side and a blinking red side it is to be treated as a reg. caution light.
People have gotten so confused, used to not be a problem.

Exactly. If it's out, 4 way stop. If it's blinking yellow = don't stop.

Re: New Louisiana Law

Hell, I'd almost rather people stop than just blow through the intersection with half the people not knowing what the hell is going on. I'd probably stop or at least slow way down, because I'd assume the guy on the other street is expecting me to stop and will pull out right in front of me.

Also seconding the merge thing. The on ramp is so you can get up to 70 mph and then make small adjustments to get into traffic. Don't drive 40 to the end of the ramp and expect everyone to move over while you get up to speed.

Thats exactly what it is!! Finally someone that understands. Governments are losing revenue because of slow sales, wich means less taxes collected. So they have to figure out a way to increase city/state revenues. Some states are even charging a fee if you want to contest your ticket.

Re: New Louisiana Law

As long as you are 'passing' in the left lane ...any reasonable speed will be allowed.. but I would imagine anything over 10mph would be excessive. Come on guys. The officers are human beings just like you and me. The law is not made as a trap, it is used to help traffic flow as it should be. This law should have been enforced since the beginning in all 50 states. If you are behind a vehicle going 5 under or just below the speed limit then you will legally be able to use the left lane to pass as to where you could attain the speed limit or the 4/7 rule...

I laugh when I see some soccer mom type driving down the left lane at speed limit or lower trying for the life or her (sometimes him) to figure out why everyone seems to be so mad at them-passing on the right side.

Re: New Louisiana Law

My biggest peeve is the guy going 72, and i'm going 77. So I creep up on him, and when I get close, I swap to the left lane and continue to pass him. Then, when I get about even with his door, he speeds up to 77. Forcing me to either increase speed, go around him, and then get in front of him and slow back down to my normal speed, or slow down, let him get back out in front, and then get back behind him again.

Either option is wrong because if you get in front he will speed up to 78 and then pass you again or just ride your ***, or if you get behind, he will slow back down to 72 forcing the issue again.

If you are that guy, die in a fire and hope your widow takes your life insurance money to buy a cruise control *******.

Yea I hate when I pass someone and get back over then... about a minute later they pass me again and get back in front of me only to slow back down so I have to repeat the process. All this when my cruise control is set...

Re: New Louisiana Law

Speaking of cruise control I was cruising at about 70-75 on the parkway yesterday mid afternoon coming up to some merging traffic, so I was slowly letting up on the throttle via cruise control (so no braking or anything) to about 70mph and I see an SUV come up right my tail and try and get around me imediately which he just had enough time to do. If he waited for 30 seconds as we passed the exit he could have easily passed me then, or I could have gotten out of the way, or I would of just sped back up to my original speed.

That wasn't the worst of it right after him out of nowhere I see some old crappy white Infinity sedan nearly rear end me and he's flashing his lights like the P.O.S. he is. Mind you I'm doing 70 mph in a 55, through merging traffic avoiding one bad driver, on a Parkway that only has two lanes of traffic going in either direction.

I stared that [edit for many choice words which are not HR friendly] down as he passed.
