Toyota Recalls 95,700 after Cash for Clunkers

TORRANCE, Calif. (AP) — Toyota Motor said Wednesday it is launching a recall of roughly 95,700 Toyota and Scion-brand vehicles in the U.S. due to a possible brake malfunction.

The recall affects some 2009 and 2010 Toyota Corolla and Corolla Matrix vehicles and some 2008 and 2009 Scion xD vehicles, Toyota said.

For those vehicles equipped with 1.8-liter engines, condensed moisture may seep into the brake system and freeze in low temperatures, potentially causing ice accumulation and weakening the power-assist to the brakes.

Those affected by the recall will be asked to return the vehicle to a dealer, where a new intake air connector will be installed.

Ford was actually the number one seller for the cash for clunkers program, Toyota had the number one selling vehicle. GM was third or fourth, but their sales declined. That is this is all for cash for clunkers.

No, GM didn't have a single vehicle in the top 10, but they were number 2 in total sales.


Toyota (TM) sold the most vehicles under the program, the DOT said, with about 19.4% of all Clunker sales. General Motors was second with 17.6% of Clunker sales and Ford (F, Fortune 500) was third with 14.4% of sales.

Yikes! That's a pretty big recall but sounds like it is extremely important. Not having brakes would suck.

That is why you dont buy imports (asian) but mainly Toyota and Honda. Buy some thing that is built to last aka a Ford or chevy.

And by the way, this does not kill your brakes, you can still stop, it just might increase stopping distances

What was it.. April? Gm recalled 1.5 MILLION for potential fire (I have yet to take mine in for the recall lol)

this affects under 100k units (A lot.. but not as much as GM.. ) And the fix? an air line.. GMs fix? valve cover gasket and wire tunnels

My friend was just telling me somebody he knew bought a used '95 Toyota Tacoma. Toyota came out with a recall on that truck since the metal they used had a different particle mixture or something like that. So the kid brought in the used Tacoma which was one of the recalled vehicles and he got a brand new '09 Tacoma because of that.

Gotta' admit, that's pretty ****in' awesome.
