1971 Plymouth Valiant Scamp

I want to get ahold of one, pick up a crate 340 with a 6-pack, put a 4-speed behind it, and basically gut the car, put in a 340 Duster interior (bucket seats, console, gauge cluster, all that good stuff), a 340 duster grill and spoiler, and give it the paint sceme the 340 duster got

I really like the late sixties Novas, Chevelles, and GTOs. Since we're being all technical about Camaros/Mustangs not being muscle cars (pony cars), I should point out that Corvettes aren't really muscle cars, either.

Guess it depends on your definition. I always think of muscle cars as front engine, carbed V8, rear wheel drive, two-door, four seat, american cars. Corvette's fall more in the sport car category. It's all subjective, I guess.

My definition is a American car built between 60 and 73 with a Big Block. No small blocks are in the muscle catagory even though some had boat loads of power

This was on google search

# Muscle cars are high-performance automobiles made primarily in Detroit from 1964 to 1974. Car manufacturers placed large V8 engines in mid-sized cars, giving them quite startling performance and setting off intense competition between manufacturers to produce the most powerful and extreme machine. The 1973 OPEC oil embargo, stricter air pollution laws and insurance premiums killed most muscle car models, though they are actively collected and restored.

Wow sorry but in my opinion a 427 Corvette is in the Muscle car group by default. Anyone who has ever driven a 427 Corvette like I have would also put it in the muscle car group as would I the 69 Corvette and Camaro ZL-1 aluminum Block 427 at over 500rwhp

My favorite muscle car?

Hmm, though choice. I love the 1964 Chrysler 300K, 413 CID 390 HP, 4 speed. But it's not a muscle car, it's a banker's hotrod.

I also love the compact MoPars of the era, Darts, pre-70 Cudas and Valiants with a hot motor, but they aren't Muscle cars either.

I guess it'd have to be the 1964 Plymouth Belevedere. 426 Max Wedge, 4 speed. All go no frills or chills, just scary fast. I can take or leave musclecars, per se. I grew up driving them in the second gas crisis so they are old news to me. Fat wallowy pigs with a big thirst and good for going fast in a straight line. No handling or stopping ability to match the straightline power. B-O-R-I-N-G!

I like a handler that hauls and stops hard enough to make women and small boys wet themselves. Otherwise, why bother?

You know what they say about opinions. Your opinion does not define a musclecar. You already looked up the definition and one of the REQUIREMENTS is that it be a midsized car. By definition a Corvette is not a musclecar. A sports car is it's own category and that is where the Vette belongs.

Oh but weight here is another

Sometimes called “Pony Cars” too. Big giant V8 engines with super chargers and special exhaust created these gas-guzzlers that were really fast! Muscle cars reached their epitome in the 1960’s with the advent of the GTO, certain Mustangs, Camaro’s and some Chyrsler models like the Challenger, etc. Unfortunately the “energy crisis” killed this genre of cars.
