So my 89 failed inspection...

Car has a rotting cat.. (probably 2 or all 4, but one rattles any time you're under acceleration... - I sold the bbk catted H.. so I had the stock H pipe on.. ) the ebrake hangs when you use it (they test it out..) it doesn't release right away... stupid rusting cables has an intake leak that causes it to intermittently rev itself up when using the brakes, has no smog pump, no EGR, an E cam, gt40 intake, bbk headers a large chip in the windshield (right in front of the inspection sticker no less) with small cracks coming off it.. I had the timing set to 14* advance (almost to the point of misfire at idle) I did not pull the SPOUT for the computer advance.. so actual timing was probably around 16..

So I'm standing at the end of the line waiting for the car to come through the inspection station, I hear the rattle when they're on the dyno.. I see them checking the brakes, et al..

He tests my brakes, gas cap, etc... he pulls up to the end..

Only thing I failed for was tires
Damnit they didn't listen to me when I said drag radials are supposed to have under 2/32nd tread.. they work best that way..

oh well

My car passed emissions with flying colors... haha well mostly.. my HCs are high (unburned gas) but meh what can ya do? I still beat the standard.. by one point haha 179 = mine 180 = standard

I failed inspection on the explorer due to having a bent front bumper. I was like WTF? With all the redneck mobiles down here with no bumber, or a 2x4 as a bumper, I fail because mine had a ding in it and is bent. I was told it needs to be "as it was when it left the factory".

I passed with bumper covers, a bent rocker panel and a door that didn't line up right...

move to NJ

ive seen alot worse driving around here lol. I dont know the inspection laws where you live smurfin but in MD you only get it inspected once for the time you own the car.
nice job on beating the emissions system monte mine did aswell. Id love to see my numbers now with no cats and new headers, you can really smell the unburnt fuel standing behind it awhile lol. Tthey couldnt/wouldnt put mine on the dyno heres my numbers.

HC
state-220ppm
me-176ppm

CO
state-1.20
me-1.18

co2
state-6.0
me-13.31 (and passed lol)

car still had original wires, cap & rotor. plugs were changed but were gapped to .038 instead of .054/.055. no smog and dieing cats. sitting in the line with the car on every now and then you could hear the metal tube of the smog pump rattling against the h pipe

nice... your state has more wiggle room with HCs.. mine was 179 state was 180
NOx, state was 1482 mine was 1228

My CO and CO2 were well within limits, like new car style..

Well keep in mind that I can't beat a 2.2 60' even on BF goodrich DRs - I either have tire hop or I bog like a mofo.. with normal tires I just spin.. I've gone sideways banging 4th before.. at least I have some traction with these, I get a chirp hitting second hard that's it..

Plus this car wasn't meant to be my daily driver.. I was kinda forced into it.

dam even in cali they only do smog inspections, not full car inspections, that would suck *** even more.

and to add, theres a guy up in sac who passed a 92 talon fwd(meaning he had to do the moving 2500rpm load test also)with a RS60t turbo, fmic and 660cc injectors. said he was well under the limits. he said the inspector noticed the fmic and asked, and he just said it was a brand new fluidyne radiator(since he made a black mesh so the fmic wasnt too obvious).

as long as its running right, itll pass

because it has an uber turbo, injectors, and FMIC and all doesnt automatically mean itll fail

yeah, but it passed visual in cali, which is a feat in itself.

any car can pass with the right tuning.
