a poll about the 86...

aright, so i was thinking recently about the whole 86 project. several things have made me lean to another path...

1. with the insurance that i had on the car, even if i fixed the car, i couldnt get it re-insured under the same VIN number. so yea, that wouldnt be good for me with that car.

2. cost analysis says the other option is WAAYYYY more feasible.

3. my buddy has a garage here in CS that i could do the other option in, and he is more than willing to help. hes pretty excited about it.

4. id get the car back pretty damned soon, probably by the end of 2005... if i can get a hold of the money and find a good shell in a timely manner.

so yea, i was thinkin about finding another 86GT hatch shell and swapping EVERYTHING. my buddy wade said he has a garage to store the stuff in, and would be more than happy to help me with the swap. said he's done two already and we can finish in a couple weekends. that way the car will be running and i can then store it wherever i need to, and can work on it during free time.

advantages of course would be cost, time, and insurance. disadvantages would of course be loss of most of the setimental value, since its not the SAME car, although i will be rebuilding it as closely as possible to the original 86.

oh yea, since i havent been here in a while, some of yall probably dont know which car im talkin bout... so here's some pics..

here is what the car looks like right now...

and what it used to look like...

damaged is estimated 6.5K, but knowing the structural problem with these cars, im sure itll cost more than that... just like before.
and here's another pic just for fun, this is of the car right before i pulled it outta the shop after the first accident... had JUST gotten painted.

coupes are lame! find another 85-86 hatch gt

I just noticed that you had the hood painted the same way I want to paint mine, never noticed in the pics a long time ago...thought it was all the red color..

Hell you have a shell buy a beater for under 1000 then use your 85's body problem solved and you dont have to pay for a new shell.

the 85 runs man.

i want the 85 and 86 though.

i found another 85GT hatch with t-tops (Which is what my 85 is) for 150$. granted that it isnt rusted to hell, i might buy it and swap the 86 stuff to it. then they'll both be t-tops, haha.

coupes are faster :p

I say find a new roller and swap over everything that you can. You no doubt have frame damage to that one and it is no longer structurally sound

i think coupes are ugly. there are only a few i like. and people argue about coupes being faster all the time, but the weight difference isnt really anything enough to make a difference, and i'd argue that the hatch has better aerodynamics in the back, possibly enough to compensate for the slight weight difference.

yea, the frame was damaged on the last accident i had with that car too, we just chopped off the front of another mustang and welded it up to this one. looked perfect. oh well.
