I deifnitely say hybrid. Hybrids are just cool, other than being super efficient.

Get the hybrid, my cousin has an RS if you buy that you'll get better milage but be wondering why you didn't just get a STi.

The RS is like $18k.. the STi is like $30..

I'm keeping my Jeep, my wife's Jeep - so I need a cheap car. If I go with the RS, I won't feel tempted to *play* with it.

With the WRX, I may want to do stuff. With the STi, I'm sure I would..

But the Civic is one MAD racer YO.. DOn't know how I won't want to mod that with some big as dubs, a mad wing and some decals yo.

The problem with hybrids the way I see it is the amount of time it takes to make up the difference in price between the hybrid and the regular car. Take a civic for example, it would take literally years to make up this difference when you could just buy a cheap 4 banger 5 speed civic and still get over 40mpg.

i say WRX. it would be a great commuter/daily driver, and itll still make 95% of the cars out there look bad, and youll have power there when you want it.

plus whenever you feel you want more, just remember, the tranny doesnt.

Re: Considering a Commuter Car

Went and drove a TDI Jetta.. 100hp, 177ft lbs of torque.

Not a bad little car, 40-50mpg... Huge trunk.

It's a little more $$ than the Subaru RS, but gets 15-20mpg better.

I think the last thing I need to go check out is the corolla.

Anything else I should be looking at for a commuter?

(summary)
Civic Hybrid
Subaru 2.5RS
TDI Jetta
Corolla

Re: Considering a Commuter Car

i have to be honest i like the tdi, my friend has a 2000 i want to say and has like 77k on it. with no real issues, little things but nothing major. but they only had 90 hp and it was amazingly slow but still not bad

Yeah.. But the torque at least give you the option to think about passing the really really slow cars (i.e. hybrids)

My buddy with a bolt-on WRX is on his third tranny. This one is supposed to be built bulletproof. The other two were stockers. We'll see how long it lasts.

Re: Considering a Commuter Car

Wicked long commute?

Mine's 206 miles each way.

Hybrid's shine in stop and go city traffic and pretty much have no effect at highway travel of any length.
