New Laptop/PC - suggestions for software

Hey guys, I know many of us are also heavily interested in computers so I'm looking for everyone's input - not just for me - but as for general knowledge and discussion.

I bought a new laptop last night (Asus G51, really liking it so far), and thought it would be interesting to hear everyone's take on the essential software you load onto a new laptop/computer that first day you get it.

Here is what I did last night:

Mozilla Firefox
Google Chrome
Open Office (MS Office trials removed asap)
Spybot Search and Destroy (anti-spyware)
Comodo Firewall (free firewall)
AVG Anti Virus (free antivirus)
CCleaner (OS cleaner - files, registry, etc)
Cacheman (memory manager app)

I usually also put on PerfectDisk defrag software, but haven't gotten around to that yet.

Re: New Laptop/PC - suggestions for software

My laptop is about the same.
Every install I do is about the same with AVG, Firefox, Chrome. I also install Windows mesh because it allows me to remote login to any machine and keep my files sync between all pc's.
I also install Microsoft Streets and Trips in case I need it for something. I have also put Windows 7 on it because it seems to be faster.

The only thing I do with it is usually Internet and take it with me on trips.

I use iTunes for music, Shredder 3.0 Beta 3 for email (Thunderbird 64bit basically), Digsby for IM, uTorrent for torrents, Adobe Photoshop CS4 and Steam for games.

Don't really do anything interesting other than that.

i dont use any of the firewall/virus/adware ****. You will be fine with FF/GC if you dont download/install some "questionable" programs. like programs youd use to hack/crack other programs from sites you shouldnt download from. or going outside the "norm" pr0n site wise and venturing out into unknown territory and picking up tons of crap (back in the IE pr0n days).

on my current lappy (pos Dell D610) i have just Vista Ultimate, Firefox and uTorrent. DSMlink and some subie tuning stuff (for a buddy) but thats pretty much it. No firewall, no anything.
