SAN Email with the Cali profiling

SEMA To Work With California Officials to Address Vehicle Profiling

California state officials announced the first in a series of $5 million in state grants targeting illegal street racing. According to these officials, the grants would pay for training to enable police officers to recognize automobiles that have been illegally modified for street racing; provide funds for officer overtime in connection with joint enforcement operations; and establish illegal street racing education presentations to high school and college students. The Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) is making itself available to provide technical support for the program. Law enforcement officers can contact BAR technical experts to get advice on whether modifications to street-racing vehicles violate California’s laws against emission-system tampering. Notably, owners of illegally modified cars can be cited for failing to meet state emissions standards, which can lead to substantial fines and fees.

“Most of these vehicle modifications are legal under California law,” said SEMA Vice President of Government Affairs Steve McDonald. SEMA has been meeting with state and local officials for years to underscore that they should not profile drivers and target accessorized vehicles. SEMA and the SAN will continue to pursue this message in Sacramento and around the state while directing attention to the SEMA-sponsored Racers Against Street Racing (http://www.rasr.info/) program designed to take illegal racing off the streets without unfairly targeting legally modified vehicles.

Re: SAN Email with the Cali profiling

eh i dont think even SEMA can help on this one.

and its funny, cause they act like cops need 5mil to start profiling, THEY DO IT ALREADY FOR FREE!!!SPEND THE GODDAM MONEY ON POWERPLANTS OR SOME OTHER ****!!!! they want to save lives, make hwy132 wider, since it kills more people in 1 year than streetracing has since F&F came out.

oh well, i have a mustang, im not worried about that **** anymore. no longer will a cop look at my car and say "hey a eclipse, thats that fast one on fast and furious with the nawzz and undercars, i bet he has that stuff too, lets get him", now theyll look at my car and say "ooh a real man drives a domestic, lets pull him over and see how good his exhaust sounds and give him props(yes cops say props)"

Re: SAN Email with the Cali profiling

5-10 years before the current laws in cali are in effect in the rest of the nation. and even then cali will still be worse(since its like the forefront of smog bull****).

though somethings telling me the eastern side of the US wont go down willingly and have politicians against carb/smog crap.

I can guarantee you Mississippi and Alabama will be the last two states in the union to agree to these terms. This may be cause for secession....bye guys.

I call for a civil war against car profiling.

I guess I would be the rebel.

Re: SAN Email with the Cali profiling

they just need to send a statment with each mod that you can keep in your glove box... and if you lose it you can just get another one free... then whent hey say XX is illegal you can pull out the slip and say negative... be done with you.

yeah..........oooooooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr they can just get people's nuts about mods and worry about others that are out killing, robbing, and raping and committing other serious crimes rather than finding the car with the 19 y/o driving and pulling him over for suspected speeding b/c the cop heard his exhaust and thought it was too loud so he automatically assumed he was speeding, but couldnt tell him how fast he was goin, rather said "well i dont know how fast you were goin, but i know you were speeding.".........but wouldnt admit he pulled over the guy b/c he was profiling and just b/c the younger guy was in a sporty car, he found it justified, despite the total lack of info on the ticket

the thing though is it isnt about the mods. cali should just get rid of visual inspection before the sniffer. 95% of the cars out there modded WILL pass the sniffer and not inspection. this shows that these so called "illegal" modifications are only illegal cause they(the man) want them to be, not because they make more emissions. they like to make you believe that this and that will increase emissions, when the opposite is true. adding a K&N filter and a less restrictive exhaust(but leaving the cat) actually lowers emissions and increases mileage(1-2mpg).

hell a guy i know has a 60trim, 272/272 cams, 1000cc injectors a dual fuel pumps and still passed the sniffer with flying colors, they did the sniffer before the visual, come visual time they failed him due to misrouted vac lines(cause of the boost controller).

so its not illegal cause it makes more emissions for your car, its illegal cause cali wants a state where everyone drives the same car, looks the same, acts the same, etc. you have something different and youre breaking some sort of law.

its all about money.

Everything is about money. And it baffles me what the $5mil could POSSIBLY be used for.
